Need to replace the hinges on a Kenwood KD 850 Looking for suggestions. I know the factory ones tend to be weak and I do have a pair of KD 750 hinges with the slot deal. Problem is the KD 850 cover does not have the plates with the knob on them Thanks

A few years ago , I have repaired a friend's KD 990 ,and replaced the hinges with Linn type. I think they were the same.
Have a look on e-bay for Linn hinges and see if they are the same.

I have two of these rare KD-850 with the same issue as you. The original hinges are of course almost unobtainable. I found through trial and error that hinges from a Pioneer PL-518 turntable will work. The top will open and stay at the proper angle and when closed is perfectly aligned. The only issue I found was that the hinge may raise slightly during the open or close process. Not really a big deal. The Pioneer hinges should be pretty easy to find on Ebay since there are lots of PL-518 out there. Hope this helps. Now, if I could only figure out my circuit board issues on these beautiful machines.

Back again. I haven't looked at this issue for so long I almost forgot an even better solution. I obviously have too many turntables. I tried the hinges from my Kenwood KD-770D and they are a perfect match. Opens and closes perfectly with no issues. Might be a little harder to find than the PL-518.
