Kenwood KD 990 vs Revox B795

Hey,
It looks to be in pretty good condition.
I forgot to mention on my kd-770d the dust cover hinges are a little weak. Does yours still have the strength to hold the lid up? Mine will but you have to open it all the to the top.
Again she's a beauty. Eric

Yes same here! I think i will take the hinges of so i can take the cover of while playing records.

So the Kenwood is fixed. All connections where resoldered and aging electronics where changed for original new ones.

Buttons and platter cleaned and as new.

It sounds really good the Ortofon X3MC is still good. Compaired to my Revox i have more drive and separation of instruments.

Wider soundstage and bith better bass.

Poorbeck EXCELLENT! Well worth your efforts to restore the KD-990, I suspect that the KD-990 is one step down from the TOTL Kenwood LO7D and this is intended as a very high compliment to the KD-990.

I need some information to level my headshell. What is the type and size of the nut on the underside of the wand just after the headshell connector?

Also a proud owner of a KD770D just a step down from the 990, it's a fantastic table. Nudged out my KD500 / Grace 707 combo which by the way replaced two tables highly regarded here. Congrats on your new table, these beasts aren't hard on the eyes either.

The pic is from the net, my table came with a Denon DL301 but it was destroyed by the maidinator and her trusty dust rag before I had the chance to hear it, along with the Grado Platinum that was on my KD500, ARRRG.

Currently running a Clearaudio Concept V2, sounds awesome connected to my Kenwood KA-7300 and Infinity Modulus I bedroom setup. The 7300 isn't compatible with LOMC, future plans include a SUT allowing me to make the change from MM. I will say the aluminum bodied Concept looks like it's organically part of the KD arm, asthetiques are also a big part of this hobby for me.

It defintely looks very organic. I am using an Denon DL103R cartridge wih an Jolida JD9 phono pre for MM and MC. It is affordable and easy to modify.

I am also and proud infinity owner... of Renaissance 90's.

Hard to beat the sound from an Infinity Emit ribbon driver, Arnie sure knew what he was doing.

Yep absolutely correct. I also had several Genesis speakers which sound a little more polite.

Could you check if your D770 has a tiny screw on the underside of the wand just behind the headshell connector and what kind of type and size it is?

A small phillips head that any jewelers screw driver kit would accomodate.

I've owned a B795, the best ergos ever, a blind person could operate it within a few minuits of familiarization. Flawless function and reliability.
Having said that, it's also a resonance festival. It's capable of good but not great SQ, the Kenny should be miles ahead once properly set up. The one thing you lose is the linear zero-error tracking with no skating force to comp.

It may be an Allen key (hex-head) bolt. Can you slip a phone camera under it?

Beautiful table, congratulations! Did you keep the Ortofon?

I still have the Ortofon. But changed to a Denon DL103R. Which is a better combination to be honest.

Below a picture of the screw!
