Kenwood KL-4090 worth $200?

Hello everyone. I recently found a pair of Kenwood KL-4090 speakers for sale, original owner, with owners manual, for $200. Price seems steep but I don't know much about these, so figured I'd come here. Anyone know if the price is fair?

I have a pair, probably the worse sounding pair I own, even after recap. Lattice on front is plastic. You can get much better 200.

Only resurrecting an old thread to help other folks who might be seeking opinions on these speakers in the future.

I found a pair sitting by the side of the road a few days ago. Brought them home and hooked them up. Didn't sound so great.

Cleaned the selector switches and secured a block on one of the crossovers that was vibrating.

I must say I think they sound great - and I'm doing side-by-side comparisons with much more expensive speakers.

Before you disrespect them think about cleaning up the switches. And who the heck cares if the grills are plastic - that has nothing to do with anything.

My set were cosmetically flawless and recapped. Still sounded like ****. Long list of better sounding speakers for less.

Advent
EPI/Epicure
Avid
Boston Acoustics
Genesis
Etc.

OK - maybe you got a bad pair or shouldn't have recapped them - the set I picked up are all original and being compared to AR3, AR3a's, AR4x, Scott, EPI and Epicures - they sound just fine

Or maybe the speakers I'm comparing against are junk or I have a bad ear

To each their own. Your ears like them then great. But there seems to be a lot more willing to invest in AR speakers then virtually all kenwoods. I’d say Scott would be a cut above kenwood as they were usually 2 or 3 way using CTS drivers vs kubuki array of drivers. Scott’s would be a couple cuts below AR products.
