Kenwood KR-5200

My next project is this Kenwood KR-5200. It powered on, lights up, but no sound. Checked the fuse on the back, it was blown, but there was a thin copper wire to complete that circuit. Geez. Then, opened it up and the 1A fuse on the board is blown. Anyone run across the fuse holder like the one shown? Stuck on one side. Need to desolder the wire to remove the fuse base in it. Broke the fuse. Also, the main fuse in the picture, is it a 5A 32V fuse? See pictures. So, I’ll start with replacing them and a good cleaning. Hope I can get her back.

I don't think those are the correct value fuses. There is a very detailed service manual you can download at hifiengine. Taking a quick look at the service manual there are three fuses. One is a 3amp fuse on the back of the unit (main fuse) and the other two fuses are in the power supply. In the power supply there is a 2amp and a 500milliamp fuse.

Main fuse should be 3amp 120/250 Volts. You will need to measure the length as they come in all types of sizes. Also good idea to buy extras. After you replace the fuses don't power the unit up without a dimbulb. You need to build a dimbulb if you don't have one. Chances are something shorted which caused the fuses to open.

While you are in there check the solder side of the Pwr Supply board, I have run across a couple of that series that had bad solder joints on the 120 ohm resistors due to excessive heat.. See post #8 in this thread for example.

After the first few hours of play, so far I'm very, very happy with my new KR-5200, my first Kenwood, and a pretty clean one to start with, I think. I've been kind of looking for something between the warmth of my Sansui x000s and the finesse of my Yamaha CR-1020, and this is doing it for me so...

Thanks for the replies. What type of fuse holder should I get? It has two holes so maybe a standard holder? I could solder in one like an earlier picture in this thread.

Just be aware there are two different length fuse styles (20mm and 30mm). make sure your holder fits the fuses you plan to use.
