Kenwood KR-5340 bias figure

I'm trying to clear up some confusion regarding the bias number to shoot for with the KR-5340 quad receiver.

First, you have the service manual:

Second, you have the Kenwood guide to biasing all of their amps and receivers:

And finally, you have Echowars' recommendation for the KR-6340, which is very similar to the KR-5340 and has the same values recommended for bias in the preceding two documents:

The original SM values of 30mA and 40mA for each channel (two pairs of outputs per channel) are a bit lower than EW's recommendation of 20mV, coming out to 14.1mV and 18.8mV instead. And the Kenwood biasing guide recommendation of 20mA is far lower yet than both, assuming it means across one emitter resistor, at 9.4mV. I'm inclined to go with 14.1mV and 18.8mV, but would like to hear if anyone else has thoughts on this.

I'd probably set it to10mV - 14mV across Re36 and move on to something else.

V=IR
V= 30mA*.47
V=14.1mV

you will have current through Re22 and Qe8. you can decide (or measure) how much is that.

To calculate the current through Re22:
V=IR
I= (B+ - 19v)/2200

If B+ is 27v, I = 3.6mA

To calculate the current through Qe8:
V=IR
Iqe8=V (across Re30)/33 (or is Re30 330R?)

Iqe12 = 40mA-3.6mA-Iqe8 = It might be close to 30mA. See the 14.1mV above.

I'd get it close and worry about something else.

I don't have this receiver and i could be wrong. i'm just a bass player...
