Hi all. I purchased a kenwood kr 6050 a few months back and have been cleaning and working on it myself. I recently replaced the lamps. Pretty strait forward and easy. I've also had to clean the contacts in the power switch. It was arching pretty badly when I first purchased it. I've done so, and its firing up nicely...for now. I'm thinking about adding a triac as K7 Sparky has suggested to attempt to permanently fix this arching issue.
I've ordered the recommended triac (two actually, in case I fry one), and some 100 Ohm 1/4 Watt resistors. I've read that the triac can be mounted directly to the heatsink. However, it seems that I need to add some lube, or a washer of some kind between the triac and the heatsink. Is this true?
I'm also having a bit of trouble understanding exactly how the power switch is wired to the triac. I've scoured the relevant forums, and tried to wrap my head around all the relevant diagrams, but still don't have a great grasp on how to install it. Has anyone done this to a KR 6050? If so, would anyone be willing to post pictures of how to wire the triac?
It could be that I should have a technician do this for me. I don't exactly understand what the triac does, and therefore, maybe I'm in over my head here. Basically, If I could see exactly where/how to wire it, I'm pretty confident I can make the appropriate solders and attach the wires where they need to go. Any suggestions/tips are greatly welcome. Including telling me that I should not attempt this myself! I would hate to permanently damage this unit.
