Kenwood KR 6050 record player ground question.

I've got an old KR 6050 and it talks about grounding your record player to get rid of ground hum in the manual but modern record players don't have a ground (at least mine doesn't). Can I just ground it to some metal or something? Would that get rid of the hum? Any suggestions of things that could be causing the hum otherwise? Doesn't hum from other audio sources.
