Kenwood KR-6400 weak left channel problem?

Hello all,

The left channel on my Kenwood KR-6400 receiver is noticeably weaker than the right. Funny thing is that when I'm listening to FM stereo, the channels are balanced but when I switch to either phono 1, 2 or Aux the weak left channel is there.

I could try cleaning all of the pots again but is there something else not obvious to me that I should look at?

Thanks,

Tim

Cleaning is the answer to most of the ills with the older Kenny gear. Are you using Deoxit or some other brand of cleaner that will dexidize the metal bits?

If this unit has the switch on the back. clean it too. My 5400 needed this switch made functional to work right.

I've gotten to the point that I clean every switch and pot, even drill sliders if I have to. I also give a squirt into the jacks and speaker connections, even the ground screw.
Pay special attention to the switch on the back panel labeled "normal--"separate". That switch, if oxidized, will give you all kinds of pain. I would suggest that you use Deoxit D5 as a cleaner/deoxidizer unless you are sure that the Chemtronics product removes oxidation. Good luck with the Kenwood.

I'm traveling and can't look at the switch but yes the 4-ch switch, the one mentioned by others.
