Recently picked up a KR-6400 as part of a deal. Re-lamped, Deoxit, cleaned 'er up. Impressive build quality.

Lots of attention given to Pioneer and Marantz receivers, while the Kennys sell for peanuts. Can't for the life of me figure out why. The comparable units of those brands have nothing on the Kennys - I've had all of them.

Currently have a NAD 705 receiver on the bench, which, IMO, is a very small step up from BPC (trust me on this). Yet non-functional 705's sell on ebay for twice what a fully functioning KR-6400 sells for. :screwy:

Doesn't make sense to me. :dunno: Anyhow, here are some beauty shots of a nice, fully functional, re-lamped KR-6400. Sorry, forgot to take nudes when I had it on the bench.

I had a KR 7600. A KA 7100, and a KA 8006. And used a KR 4070 when I was a kid. They were okay, but nothing that would get anybody excited. I liked the 8006 the best, but if you tried to run two sets 8 ohm speakers simultaneously it would cut the power in half. Really weird. The 7600 had a really mediocre phono stage. But I made okay coin on them, so I am happy.
That 600 should bring some money.
Best of luck.

It seems like the further back in time that you go, the better Kenwood is/was.

I picked up a KR-7070 cheap and after cleaning it up, she's nice.
Plenty of power, looks like a good build effort. I gather that there was a factory recall/upgrade. A friend has one that I cleaned up too. Looks like some mod work was done on it (stickers and mis-matched outputs). They are real brutes. Heavy doesn't really cover it. Oh, and they have automatic power tuners (motorized). Cool feature.

I did find a TK-88 in the original box. Cool old unit. Needed serious cleaning to get it to work.

I have a couple smaller units that are very pretty and work well. KR-4070, KR-5200.
My issue is that all the others I have come across have some major problems.
I've fixed a couple. Blown outputs.

The newer stuff is usable but the build quality went into the toilet.
