Kenwood Kr-7400 Audio Channels Uncooperative

Okay, so I'm new to both vintage audio and forums. here's hoping one of you geniuses might be able to help me.

About a month and a half ago I got my Kenwood Kr-7400 professionally cleaned and repaired from a dismal state. worked just fine, though all of a sudden all inputs (Phono, Phono 2, FM, AM) except aux will play the left ear/speaker 90% louder than the other. and when I switch to left audio both speakers play the left audio through both speakers just fine, however switching to the right audio plays really quiet through both headphones and speakers. Aux input plays through both speakers on stereo just fine. I switched the speakers from speakers A to speakers B with no luck. This happened maybe a day before I got my hands on my very first working turntable. should I get an adapter that converts that phono to aux and have some kind of rca switchbox?

any kind of advice would be a great help, I'm very lost on what to do here. Thanks for your time!

Any chance the Normal/Separate 4 channel switch on the back got moved? Also, did the service include cleaning all the switches including that one? I would also check the tape monitor switch. In fact, it would be interesting to see if all the signals make it as far as the "tape out" jacks. That could help localize where the problem is. Also be aware that the speaker switching setup on this receiver puts speakers in series if more than one set is selected (A+B, A+C) so if one pair is absent you will get no sound in the connected pair unless you select a single pair of speakers (A, B, C).

Just got back home, currently testing it. doesn't seem like the 4 channel switch was ever moved as it's currently on "Normal" and to my knowledge all switches were cleaned. I've got the speakers hooked up correctly. I haven't hooked anything up to tape since I don't have any working reel to reel systems. however the same thing happens on tape monitor where the left output is so much louder than the left. I'm thinking something was possibly messed up when I cranked my speakers really loud and the bass could have possibly moved something internally. I doubt it but being as naive as I am it's really my only guess

An try when 2/4 channel switch put on 4 channel. And hook up an external source and connect speakers only to the rear terminals????? In other words; any difference in behaviour than the currently 2 channel selection and speakers only hooked up to the front terminals as i immagine you have done till now as you suggest?

There are rear and front terminals? I just have my speakers connected to the A terminals on the back of the receiver. Anyways I switched it to 4 channel and heard the faintest sound when I cranked it to max, and then switched to to normal and the audio played in the right for a little while and then the left kicked in louder than the right again.

If it is not a 4 channel Kenwood amp or or receiver. I havent looked up the model indeed (my mistake). But what do you mean with 2 or 4 channel then? Anyways, it is this one thus i presume? See for example https://www.audio-high-store.com/kenwood-kr-7400/ Gus this is indeed a dedicated 2 channel am fm stereo receiver and not a 2 / 4 channel receiver!

It looks you got a solder crack, cap or transistor issue. Most likely a blown output and other issues! I can't help you further, but others may be can. But if you have a way to test your output transistors - in circuit maybe if you can - do that first Hakim!

On the back there's an option for 4 channel I think but yes! That's the model and a beauty other than this one problem.

Man did I pick the wrong hobby, I know NOTHING about going into hardware electronics. I'm a very software-y person. Thanks for the help even if it didn't solve the problem though. I'm still very grateful

The KR-7400 has the option to use an external 4 channel FM decoder. The switch is in the signal path even when listening to 2 channel sources so if the contacts are dirty, it can create a problem. If it is suspect, I would exercise it a few times and hit it up with some DeoxIt D5.

weirdly enough the problem just kinda stopped after listening to my radio enough. if I run into any issue relating to this again I'll clean those contacts
