Kenwood KX-1030 rewind button problems

Hello,
and first sorry for my bad English: I'm German

I got an Kenwood KX-1030 tape deck from 1977 - the year I was born.
For sure I inspected the tape deck and ordered new belts. I opened the deck and did the replacement of the flat belt like described here ( https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/kenwood-kx-1030-belt-replacement.304391/ ) by @RichK1 (amazing job by the way).
I replaced just the flat belt after cleaning the wheel. The square belt was OK and I used the old one again. Cleaned it for sure!
Now the deck plays and yes, fast forward is also working. But sadly the rewind button makes some problems. I press the button and after some seconds it stops. Also the counter is not working when I press the rewind button.

Does anybody have any idea? I'm not absolutely an office guy but yes, my knowledge is limited when it comes down to tape decks and their mechanism. Sadly we have not so many electronics garages/workshops here and yes, they are really expensive (around 140 Dollar per hour).
Maybe the problem is easy to fix. I would appreciate any help.
All the best from Germany
Peter

Congratulations on your new Kenwood tape deck.

I would highly recommend you replace the square belt and the two counter belts with new belts, plus clean all rollers and gears involved with these belts.

Also, you may be interested in the following thread. If you start having static in your speakers when using your new deck, capacitors C27, C28, C80 and C90 should be replaced.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot for your help. Ordered some new belts today and will replace the old one.
Your link is really interesting! Thanks for this. Will check everything out in the next days and will keep you updated!

If you are testing the deck without a tape, its normal for rewind to auto stop after a couple of seconds. The counter won't move when rewinding without a tape becase the take up reel is not moving.

If you are testing the deck with a tape and it won't rewind, there are two idlers that might be slipping.
