Kenwood KX-620 will not rewind or fast forward.

I replaced the belts and the deck now plays cassettes just fine but it will not rewind or fast forward. I can hear the motor spinning, and the belt and wheels on the underside of the unit are turning when the rewind or fast forward button are pressed. I took a photo of the wheels/gears that I think should be engaging, but they aren’t. Can anyone assist here? I’d greatly appreciate it!

With these metal chassis's the old lube will stick and the metal parts won't slide smoothly. I'm not sure if this is the issue but clean with IPA and foam swabs, get the right lube and visually watch the movement before assembly, everything should move like a nice Swiss Watch. Sometimes there's tiny moving parts, usually with tiny springs that need a little push to break the surface tension.

Of course the belts might be the wrong size or NOS, meaning that they've hardened with time and are slipping.
