Aussie AKer 'restorer-john' has heard a LOT of vintage Japanese gear.He holds the L-07C II(and the L-07Ms) in high regard.

I thought you would know and appreciate the L-07C!

The L-07CII appears to be a different animal. I wonder how close the topology is.

She's a beauty of a preamp. Mike at vintageaudiomanuals.com has some great Kenwood L-series service manual reproductions...well worth the $15 if you're planning on doing a restoration.

Great idea on the service manual! The L-07C is definitely the right "piece of clay" for a restoration.
 
The L-07C came in today. Funny, the soft lighting in the photos made the unit look better than it actually is in the light of day. (Sounds like bar talk!) Anyways, the unit didn't get damaged in shipping and that is always a bonus.

As advertised, it has no sound through the AUX and Tuner inputs. I tried the Tape Play and I got plenty of clean sound. The amp has mirrored circuits for left and right so it has to be something in common that is causing silence. I'll keep looking for a bad solder joint or something easy and then it is off to see Tom I.

Only now am I becoming aware of Kenwoods heavyweight contenders..highly impressive stuff...:thmbsp:
 
If there is output when driven from the tape loop then all should be well>

I'd be guessing that the source selector is gummed-up. :scratch2:

The L-07C has mirrored circuits for left and right. The power supply board is also mirrored. Kenwood is really going for separation in this amp. No IC's in sight, everything is discrete.

I have the covers off for a deoxit bath and sadly, I think it is more that a dirty selector. At least the output stage works very well including the tone controls. It is usable in this condition but I'd rather have it fixed.:yes:
