Kenwood L-09M AMP special locking RCA input & Remote cord end connectors

Hello Kenwood fans. I need your help, SoCal Sam, theophile, redcoates7, ETC. Can Ya'll help me locate the special Kenwood L-09M AMP locking RCA input & Remote cord end connectors so I can make my own, or am I S.O.L.? I'm thinking of using locking Nakamichi RCA Plug Locking Audio Connectors 8-9mm 24K New US 035340 for the special locking amp inputs (on fleapay), (would these fit?) I haven't measured yet. The remote input connectors on the L-09M AMPS and L-07C PRE-AMP look like standard small wall-wart low voltage transformer power cord end female receptacles? In the L-07M manual it says the L-07M is provided with a remote power cord through which a small DC control current flows and can be switched on and off using the L-07C pre amp power switch so I'll assume it's the same for the L-09M amps. I do not want to alter the amps or pre-amp in any way except internally in the future using new caps, internal elec. components as needed etc. I just got the matching Kenwood amps, pre-amp, and tuner running a couple KENWOOD MV-9D's for about 30 hours now on low output to make sure they are ok. I put the attenuation knobs for the right & left channels all the way clockwise as stated in the manual (& they sound the best there), and put the master attenuator knob second up from the lowest setting clockwise -12, said a quick prayer and put power to everything and turned up the volume a little at a time and it ROCKS! These things kick ass! And they were almost on the lowest setting! (main attenuation knob set at the 2nd lowest position -12).
Would I have any problems splitting the stereo signal from the L-07C pre-amp stereo outputs with splitters to my KA-9100 AMP and my L-09M AMPS at the same time to drive the MV-9D's from the L-09M's AMPS & drive my 2 KENWOOD KL-777 speakers & my 2 KENWOOD JL-860 speakers with the KA-9100? I'm new to all this soooooo...... please help me.

You might want to post in the Kenwood/Trio forum as well.

Remote cord is 12V trigger? Never seen one with any of the L monoblocks that I have found. The cord would have been useful with the L-07M which does not have a power switch. (On a side note, the 7's are fantastic audio value on epay.)

Be careful with aggressive (tight) RCA connectors on the input jack of these amps. They are mounted to a PCB and break when bumped. This is a problem with the 7. None of my 9's had broken jacks but IIRC, the part is the same.

RCA splitter will work fine from the L-07C. I'm not sure why there is Gain AND Master Volume controls but there should be plenty of signal to split. The transformer and filters are massive for a preamp.

Thank you for the info SoCal Sam. Does anyone else know where I can get the Kenwood L-09M AMP special locking RCA input & Remote cord end connectors? I can't wait until I hook up the KA-9100 with the other 4 speakers and crank up some SAXON, KROKUS, ETC! Ya'll ROCK! Yes I do plan on getting some L-07M's and better speakers some day. I've been a big Kenwood fan for over 32 years and still have my first Kenwood; a car cassette radio and small amp but it rocked! I even used to bring down my car stereo setup to the beach on a dolly with a car battery when I was a teenager! LOL!
I went to my first concert TED NUGENT when I was just 12 years old about 38 yrs. ago & I got it from some kitty next door! LOL! I couldn't believe my Mom let me go by myself & even dropped me off at the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium! Wow what a concert! I've been rockin' my ass off ever since! LOL. I hope to fill my garage with huge high power amps and speakers some day and I hope Ya'll will help me with any questions ETC. My neighbor Greg next door jams out on his Bass in a band with his friends a lot so their real cool when I jam out in my garage & never complain and neither does my wife. He couldn't believe how powerful and loud my KENWOOD KA-9100 is with only 2 KENWOOD KL-777 speakers AND 2 KENWOOD JL-860 speakers hooked up to it! It's gonna' be funny when he hears how loud it is cranked up with the new gear.

You got it! The circuit is really simple too...all you have to do is close the contact between the inside pin and the outside conductor and the amplifiers power up...so essentially there's a relay inside the L-07C that close and completes a circuit which in turn activates a second relay in the L-07M that powers em up...no voltage is sent from the preamp to amplifier, so in a non-Kenwood preamp system you could rig something up with a simple toggle switch.

Key message here is to put the speaker as close to the amplifier as possible.

As for service manuals, check out vintageaudiomanuals.com. He doesn't list the L-07CII, (just the L-07C) but you never know... they sell some very high quality manual copies...spiral bound with excellent clear circuit diagrams, etc.

As shown in the two pictures below I believe I found on AK. I made my speaker wires using a 100 foot long stranded copper wire 12 gauge three conductor extension cord I bought at Wal-Mart. It saves me a lot of money and I can get several different length speaker cables from it using good quality terminals and some good ratcheting terminal crimpers. I usually slip on a piece of heat shrink tubing first and then solder the crimped terminals on, then put the heat shrink tubing over the ends of the cables and crimped on terminals to help prevent corrosion over time. I don't have to worry about the wire pulling itself out of the crimped terminal either after soldering them on. Sometimes I use a liquid brush on or dip on plastic to seal the ends of the heat shrink tubing also. That's it for now. I need to find out the Diameter and Pitch/Threads Per Inch of the KENWOOD PART NUMBER E13-0115-15 PHONO JACK- ( SCREW LOCK TYPE ) special RCA type input terminal so hopefully I can find a substitute to use or have them
machined. I'll keep Ya'll posted.

RCA splitter wont work fine from the L-07C

Hi SoCal Sam, you said "RCA splitter will work fine from the L-07C".
I bought some splitters and more cables & made sure they only split 1 RCA into 2 RCA using one channel with my Voltmeter using the OHMS continuity method and they were fine until I actually tried to split the LEFT & RIGHT channel outputs on my L-07C. 2 pairs of splitters for the LEFT & RIGHT channels and 2 cables from each female RCA connector on the splitter; two cables on the RIGHT channel, one cable to L-09M AMP RIGHT INPUT & one cable to the RIGHT channel input on the KA-9100 AMP and the same thing for the LEFT channel L-07C output split into 2 cables 1 to the L-09M AMP LEFT channel input & 1 cable to the LEFT channel input on the KA-9100 AMP. Nothing but loud buzzing/humming noise from the speaker outputs on my KA-9100 AMP. I didn't want to harm my L-09M AMPS or the KA-9100 AMP so I did not hook up the other side of that splitter to my L-09M's & just unplugged the splitters & only used the L-09M AMPS & THE MV-9D speakers for now. But I did find a pair of 450 watt KENWOOD MV-5D speakers yesterday and I'm going to hook them up into the A speakers at the same time bringing down the OHMS to 4 ( the MV-5D's & MV-9D's are both 8 OHMS each) so it will work that way because the L-09M AMP is rated 4 to 16 OHMs . Am I doing something wrong? I was not using the pre-amp in the KA-9100 amp when I split the L-07C LEFT & RIGHT outputs, but the KA-9100 AMP worked fine using my KENWOOD BASIC C2 PRE-AMP hooked up to the KA-9100 & ALL THE OTHER COMPONENTS ( Tuner, cassette player, CD player etc.) hooked up to the C2. I didn't try adjusting the attenuator knobs on the L-09M AMPS also at the time. I was still set up 2nd up from the farthest CCW position, the -12 position on the main attenuator knob and the smaller speaker balance attenuator knobs still set all the way clockwise. I'll post a pic of someone else's main attenuator knob with this post (not on the -12 setting though). Someone please help; I'm a newbie to all this. I only know the basics.

Would someone please help me with this "RCA splitter wont work fine from the L-07C"? Please read the post above. I want to use my other Kenwood KA-9100 amp and 4 smaller Kenwood speakers; a pair of JL-860 Kenwood speakers and a pair of KL-777 Kenwood speakers split off the output of my L-07C Pre-Amp. I just hooked up my Kenwood MV-5D speakers this morning in parallel with my Kenwood MV-9D speakers split off the A speakers on my L-09M amps and they are LOUD CRANKED UP! When I read the analog meters on my L-09M amps on the 4 ohm scale and the scale meter knob set at X1 I turned up the volume just before clipping and the meter was just above 50 watts on the scale with the main attenuator knob set at -12. The 4 pictures are of my current setup in my garage. I have a Kenwood KD-12RB Turntable being shipped to me soon and I am going to hook up my Kenwood KX-1030 when I get new belts.

Was the loose end of the splitter touching anything ?

I guess I see what you're trying to do here, use one preamp to drive two separate amps. Not trying to be a smart ass, but just curious as to why? You have some very hefty amps there all on their own and in an area the size of your garage it must be enough to shake the nails out of the drywall with each on their own.

No the splitter wasn't touching anything. To answer your other question as to why; it's because I have been a hard rock lover (not that speed metal new stuff) for more than 39 yrs. I love songs cranked up real loud that makes your ears ring and you can feel the Bass! I love SAXON, DIO, KROKUS, AC-DC, JUDAS PRIEST, TED NUGENT, IRON MAIDEN, HELIX, MOTORHEAD, WHITESNAKE, ETC, ETC, ETC. And I'll be buried with continuous hard rock playing in my coffin with solar power and KENWOOD components jamming! LOL! I'll be cranking hard rock in my 90's blowing peoples minds IF I live that long! I have many great stories to tell from all the awesome concerts I've been to over the years also and I saved all my ticket stubs. I love songs cranked up like DEAF FOREVER-MOTORHEAD, BLOW YOUR SPEAKERS-MANOWAR, PLAY IT LOUD-SAXON, TURN UP THE RADIO-AUTOGRAPH, EVERYBODY PAYS THE PRICE-HELIX, LOUDER THAN HELL-MOTLEY CREW, RIOT-BORN IN AMERICA, DIO-STRAIGHT THROUGH THE HEART, KROKUS-STAYED AWAKE ALL NIGHT, AC-DC-ROCK 'N' ROLL DAMNATION, JUDAS PRIEST-METAL GODS, TED NUGENT-GREAT WHITE BUFFALO, IRON MAIDEN-RUN TO THE HILLS, WHITESNAKE-ALL OR NOTHING, ETC, ETC, ETC. I'd have to say the best concert I have every been to was JUDAS PRIEST, WHITESNAKE & IRON MAIDEN at SHEA'S BUFFALO THEATER JULY 17TH 1981! The building first opened in JANUARY 1926 & held only 3000 people in 1981 and it was built for orchestra sound so the acoustics was AWESOME & THE CONCERT WAS MORE INTIMATE/MORE IN TUNE WITH THE CROWD! Everyone was standing, pumping their fists high in the air and cheering & clapping all night long even though there were nice comfy padded seats to sit on! THAT CONCERT KICKED EVERYONES ASS ALL NIGHT LONG! All 3 bands played their hearts out and you could tell they did! The bands all sounded like and played just like what you heard when you played their music on cassettes or albums at the time! I found a picture of someone else's concert stub from that day sold on fleabay for $17.55 that ended May 07, 2015 with $1.95 shipping I will attach to this post. So now you know where I'm coming from.
I still need help locating the special locking RCA type connectors or complete cables so all you KENWOOD lovers out there please help me. Will someone please give me info I can actually use? HARDLY anyone has even responded to my post asking for help or given me any info I can actually use. Where are all the KENWOOD LOVERS with helpful answers with a source to the cables or special locking RCA connectors so I can complete my mission? I know the cables are rare and hard to find but someone with the special cables would you please measure the special locking RCA connector for me with digital calipers or regular dial calipers for me and tell me how many threads per inch or threads per mm there is on them, and post all the other measurements ETC. and post close up high resolution pictures of them from all the angles of them for me please so if I have to I will have someone machine some for me? I'm sure other KENWOOD LOVERS that need these cables would buy the special locking RCA connectors also if someone knows where to buy them or machines them & sells them. I own mostly SAE type taps and dies, & SAE thread chasers so if they are metric I only have a few for my Radio Control hobby and they are pretty small mostly 2mm and 3mm taps and dies so someone with these special cables please help a fellow KENWOOD ENTHUSIAST out.

Haha!! I understand. I saw JP many years ago at Stabler Arena Lehigh University. Loudest damn concert I've been to, period. Quite frankly, too loud for me. My eardrums were actually clipping, for lack of a better description. No ****. And that's coming from a drummer.

I don't see why you can't split the signal. Can you post pics of the patch cords?

Rca splitters

I'll post a picture of one similar to them (all 3 connector ends on the splitters I bought there are black and split out in mono not red & white stereo as shown in the picture but are very similar, same length ETC. all 3 connector center pins were only connected to each center pin +, & all 3 connector outer - rings were only connected to each other also checked with my multimeter using the audible continuity setting); but I believe there is nothing wrong with the splitters. They are brand new and I checked them also like I stated in my previous post. They are just ordinary low cost regular splitters, no special shielding or gold plating etc. I don't like to assume anything but I have a feeling it has something to do with the unusually high output power the KENWOOD L-07C Pre-Amp output connectors put out. On page 16 of the SPECIFICATIONS in the L-07C DC POWER AMPLIFIER and L-07M INSTRUCTION MANUAL it says the maximum output Voltage is 10 Volts/ less than 10 OHMS and the load impedance is 50 k OHMS.
So someone with more electronics knowledge needs to chime in on this because like I stated in a previous post I only know the basics of electrical circuits and electronics and how to solder basic components on a circuit board, read most of an electrical schematic, OHMS LAW, Algebra, wiring single and three phase components and installing single and 3 phase wiring, wiring in aircraft, trucks, cars, locomotives, ETC. The basics.
One of the loudest concerts I ever went to was a MOTORHEAD concert in BUFFALO, N.Y. My best friend Matty couldn't handle the volume and actually walked out during that MOTORHEAD concert not long after they started playing and waited for me in my 1972 Grand Prix Model SJ with the 455 C.I. ENG. in it until the concert was over! LOL!

You have me at a loss there. AKAIK voltage on most pre-outs is around 1.5v.

I have a pair of L07's and had no issue driving them with either a Yamaha C4 or Pioneer SA-9500.

I was hoping you could post a pic of the patch cords as installed.

Put on the backburner for now

I have to clean up the garage first and get some nice stands or audio racks to put the pre-amp, tuner, and amps on instead of using my smaller speakers to put them on. Besides I have satisfactory HIGH VOLTAGE ROCK 'N' ROLL now to jam out on and splitting the signal and finding the cables are pretty low on the priority list right now. But I never give up and someday I'll find some with some patience. Thanks anyway DrumminDaddy, keep on ROCKIN'!

L-07CII and L-07C Special Locking Cables & TRIO L-07CII 120V?

Awesome score! Did they come with the L-07m AMPS? Where did you find them? I saw some sold with a pair of L-07M AMPS on EBay not too long ago but of course when you see something finally you would really like to have at the time you don't have the funds yet. And then when you do have the funds and are diligently looking to buy something they are not available! Seems to happen quite often to me :headscrat
Well I bought a TRIO L-07CII on Tuesday that should be here tomorrow and I posted a pic of the Data plate with the Serial Number. It clearly shows 100 Volts but if you read my post about it I have asked all AK'ers if they might know if what he states in the auction is true. He said it is Factory wired to run on 120 Volts and has used it with many Amps including L-05M and L-09M AMPS with never a problem. This is the same person I recently bought my L-09M AMPS from so I have no reason not to believe him because he has been straight up with me and the L-09M AMPS are still kicking ass in my garage system. I had posted on Tuesday 08-04-2015, 06:28 PM in my thread titled- KENWOOD L-07C or L-07C II ? - but I have not received a response from anyone yet who might be able to answer my question if a TRIO L-07CII was available from the factory as he states factory wired for 120 Volts? He says everything works good except the TONE controls are a bit noisy when turned & I believe a good cleaning with DEOXIT should clear them up nicely.
I'm really looking forward to playing some more old rock records I scored on the local CL! When it was working through my L-07C AMP it sounded awesome! :guitar: The bass really came alive and the sound was not so Brite.

^^^ I had the feelers out to a guy I knew was parting out his system. Told him I was interested in the cables. He said he'd keep me in mind. I didn't hear from him for a while so I figured they were long gone. A couple weeks ago I get an email asking if I was still interested. Uhh, yeah!

I don't have the L07c yet, but I'm in no hurry. I can wait for a good deal to come along. I've got enough toys to keep me occupied in the meantime.

I read your thread about the 100v version. At best I'd be very cautious. The guy might be as honest as the day is long and actually believe that the unit is wired for 120v. That doesn't mean he couldn't be mistaken.

True, so very true. So how has he used it many times with many different amps using 120 Volts including the L-05M's and L-09M AMPS he sold me and it didn't fry? You never know but I still haven't received a response from anyone for several days and I'm at a loss as to why ? :headscrat I really need an answer because now it's going to be here on Monday and I don't want to fry it!

Trio L-07CII PRE-AMP Works Great!!!

I guess he was right about being wired for 120 VOLTS. I jammed out for 4 hours straight last night until the local 10pm curfew with the TRIO L-07CII PRE-AMP I just bought and all went well except for 1 thing. The PNONO 1 gives something like feedback using a microphone too close to amps at about 3/4 turn of the main volume knob. It's a humming noise that gets louder the more I turn the volume up past the 3/4 or approx. 3 O'clock position. I tried both grounding terminals separately and not connecting the ground wire at all from the KENWOOD KD-12RB Turntable to no avail. No big deal, but I do like it really loud most of the time and the volume level is satisfactory. The KENWOOD L-07C PRE-AMP did not do this though the short time the PHONO 1 LEFT CHANNEL INPUT was working through it. I did notice the TRIO L-07CII PRE-AMP sounded much better, clearer and louder than my KENWOOD L-07C PRE-AMP using all the inputs except the PHONO 1. The KENWOOD L-07C PRE-AMP PHONO 1 LEFT CHANNEL INPUT when it was working for the short time it was serviceable/working sounded louder and clearer with no feedback or humming noise than the TRIO L-07CII PRE-AMP PHONO 1. The BASS and TREBLE knobs on the L-07CII PRE-AMP are way more adjustable and really help dial in the best sound you want for each type of component and music medium you use to listen to. The BASS was AWESOME last night. I could feel the vibrations through my bones and through the bottled water container I was drinking out of. Those KENWOOD L-09M AMPS were barely even warm after jamming out at ear ringing HIGH VOLTAGE ROCK & ROLL levels for more than 4 hours straight! It sounds awesome also cranked up with the improved BASS and TREBLE adjustments! The KENWOOD L-09M AMPS, MV-9D, MV-5D speakers, and L-07CII PRE-AMP kick major ass here in my man cave/garage! They sound awesome cranked up no matter what medium of music I'm listening to; CD's, Albums, Tuner, or Cassettes! They are all KENWOOD old school components also.
Looking forward to trying out different components and speakers in the future, but for now this system kicks major ass! LOL!!! :guitar: It's time to rock and party!!!
