I bought these recently fairly cheap for what they offer. They are in excellent shape and I like the look of them. I had them hooked up to a Sansui BA2000 and they sounded pretty good, clear but not particularly better than most anything else I've brought home. I hooked them up to my Fisher 460a and wow what a diffrence. They are fairly efficient and played at higher levels than is really needed for casual listening the consensus is they image really well. I did detoxit the Lpads which helped a lot and will replace the 2.2uF electro cap with a metal poly, I ordered 47uF electro caps to replace the shunt caps in the low pass, only if the stock caps are out of spec. The surrounds are linen and the overall build quality seems much better than other Kenwood speakers. I think they sound really good, fun to listen too on a tube amp, curious to see if the caps make any noticeable difference.

Nice score. I like the look too. Never seen this model before. Is the bottom woofer a passive radiator?
 
It is a passive radiator, from what I've read these speakers came with three different weights per speaker to add or take away bass through mass loading I assume. There is a hex bolt in the middle of the radiator for adjusting.
 
Never seen those before, but I love the way they look. A coaxial woofer with cloth surrounds is always a big deal. Would love to see pictures of the back of that woofer, if possible.

Just an update and an interesting side note. I replaced the 2.2uF electro cap with a Metalized Polypropylene Audyn cap and have to say it really made a difference in a side by side comparison. The music became so much richer ? sounding I guess like it was coming from a larger higher quality speaker. These image crazy good to, I think they are steal if you can find them. I removed the 47uF shunt cap and it was a perfect 47.
On a side note a very good friend and neighbor Katie, we call her KT, was born def, she uses hearing aids and gets by without issue in most cases. She can hear with her aids obviously but I wouldn't think like we are used to hearing, she can also her things we cannot. She has seen and heard dozens of pairs of speakers come through the farm over the years mostly commenting on ascetics as nothing has jumped out at her sound wise, KT enjoys music and appreciates it. KT, her husband Kris, and I where in the barn listening to various new and old speakers. Kris had heard the Kenwoods and felt KT may like them. I put on some Big Brother and the Holding Company (Cheap Thrills) and let Janis do her thing. KT listened to Summertime from start to finish the song ended and she simply said (I want these) so they are now hers. My take is she likes the point source sound of the coaxial tweeter in a large driver, I think she is more susceptible to the higher frequency time alignment and spacing of drivers given without her aids you can say her name in a room and she won't hear you but you can make a slight (pissst) and it immediately grabs her attention. I'm super stoked she gets to enjoy these poor mans $100 Altecs, when Kris and KT get their house built the LS770's will be paired with a Sansui 1000A.

I got a pair of the 770 for free because of the dirty lpads, the horns weren't working,a little deoxit and like new. I really like the sound of these speakers,will have to try replacing the caps too.
 
This thread popped back up so I’ll comment. I just last week had these playing off of the fresh Sansui 1000a they are now paired with, it’s a super combination. I had been using the Trio’s the last month or so in my everyday kinda back ground system. I’m still impressed at how good they are.
 
Ok, I just put a Trio Kenwood ls 77 in a Karlson K15 enclosure for try and cut at 150 hz and I'm very surprise by the sound, it's amazing, I never have so good bass in a Karlson box, I try different 15 inch woofer but nothing sound like the Trio, tomorrow I plug the coaxial horn

Old thread, i know. I did get a pair of these and absolutely love them. I think they are heavily inspired by JBL's L-44 and L-77. Those 2 were a passive radiator and a full range driver.

I have been looking for speakers to pair with my new 1000a and I have a bid in on a pair of the 770s in great shape as part of an estate sale. Now I really want to win that pair so I can see for myself.

You won't regret those. 10 inch woofer and passive, in a narrow, vertical aligned enclosure, coaxial drivers (Fostex most likely), they have an awesome soundstage. Cabs are well constructed, and there are 2 simple capacitors to change on the x-overs if you want to. When new, they came with 2 pairs of additional weights, that you could change, to tune the passive, ask the seller if he still has those (the inverted aluminum dust cap, in the passive). Make sure you de-oxit the tweeter attenuator if it is scratchy. Enjoy!!!
 
Thanks. The weights are still in the package actually. The speakers are in good shape so I’m hoping to get them.
 
Fun part is; they do not have the foam roth syndrome, they have cloth surrounds and, no dope migration either... Really nice drivers ;)
