Kenwood or Sansui integrated - which would you choose?

Incomprehensible space llama
I have a line on a vintage Sansui set, headlined by the AU-517. I also have a line on a Kenwood KA-8100, and of course I already have my modded KT-7500. Not factoring in cost (because I don't know yet), which setup would you rather have, and why?

They're both mid-powered integrateds, with dual transformers and 4 big power caps. Both are beautiful aesthetically. So...help me choose!

I would go for the KA-8100 if I were you.

It has alot of power. It is just under the the TOTL KA-9100 and it looks very nice.

And you don't see them on sale all the time.

Plus, it'll go along with you KT-7500.

Are you willing to throw an A-1020 into the mix? :D

For the record, this is and "either/or" proposition.

I was not aware the AU-517 has dual transformers. Are you sure it does? I am leaning toward the KA-8100, it is a very good amp. Or I would buy neither and go for a Kenwood Model 600 or a Sansui AU-9900. But those are more money...
If you want a superb sounding integrated on a budget, check out an Onkyo Integra A-8057 or A-8087. It's black though.

yes the 517 has dual transformers/power supplies for 65 watts output and it do sound sweet.
PS: I gave 200 for mine + some ship for a short distance. But only 60 for the KA7100 locally.

Without having listened to either of these units, I'd say go with the Sansui. Based on my personal taste and experience, I like the sound of their amps from that era better than Kenwood.

that dual mono construction takes some beating...i have an au719...and its a wonderful sounding amplifier

Forget the "either this or that" question and get one of each.

I already own the "this", so now I´m looking for the "that":D

For those advising me to get both...feel free to donate to the cause! :thmbsp:

Just kidding.

Unless you really want to.

KA-8100 is on its way. It's a fixer-upper, so we'll see if I got the bargain of the century, or an expensive doorstop. Still waiting to hear back from the Sansui guy.
