I got myself this tuner practically for free. It came with a Technics amplifier.
There are a ton of Japanese, surplus audio equipment where I currently live. The tuners that come from Japan usually only receive local stations (76-90).

I managed to adjust the frequency so that it'll receive the standard 88-108.

I noticed that AM doesn't work - it's completely quiet. The signal tuning meter doesn't work either; it stays at the zero mark. I assume the tuning meter is connected to the muting circuit, that's why the muting doesn't work either?

It sounds excellent even with the issues mentioned above. I'd love to get it to work properly, though.

First thing I would do would be to confirm that the AM tuner was receiving the required +14 volts when set to AM mode. That power comes in on terminal 6 of the AM board, and can be measured at various places including either end of any of the 2.2 uH chokes.

I'll check as soon as a new multimeter arrives. For some reason it died just as I was taking measurements. Oops.
