Keurig coffe

Staying with family has once again reenforced my dislike of these things, and we were not even using the keurig coffee. This type of coffee is substandard to French press, or drip coffee.

It's a great quick cup of coffee. But I never owned the Keurig. I chose the Bosch Tassimo single cup brewer, years ago 'cause it was demonstrated to me in a store, and it had better brewing technology than the Keurig back then.

I don't use it that much because it gets costly buying all of the little T-Discs, but it is a great way to try different coffees and get the perfect brew. And it is very fast too.

For the last couple of decades, I have grown to love the Farberware electric percolaters. I use the 4-cupper on a daily basis. That with some Chock Full-O-Nuts coffee and I am ready to take on the world.

I can not call this a great cup of coffee.

I would never buy my coffee in the k cup or the T disc. I am not paying for the packaging.

The emptying and refilling the reusable filter is a hassle, and is anything but quick.

I have an older Hamilton Beech or similarly misnamed Drip maker rigged to a computer-timer for the morning pot - it does pretty good with Yuban coffee.

Tried the Keurig at my sister-in-law's place a few years back - Emma got excited about it but we had some conversations and
we got a Bialetti "machine" instead for the occasional afternoon coffees, and Emma recently bought a neat little Turkish pot
and makes nice small cups with that. I do buy some nice roasts and grinds for the Bialetti and the weekend coffee ...

We have a tecnovorm mica master and a Bodum double glass walled French press. We are missing them.

I use one when I'm running behind in the morning and don't have time to brew a pot.

The Green Mountain capsules are some of the better of the lot.

I am the only coffee drinker in the house. I got tired of brewing a small pot in the morning then throwing away more than half of it since I only drink one cup in the morning. I do have a Bialetti as well as a dedicated expresso machine but those are for when I can sit around and relax, mainly in the evening. When first purchased the Keurig was quick and easy to use but the brew strength was lacking. I have settled on using 2 K-cups on the espresso setting into one mug for my morning fix. Not the best but it will do.

Woah - I buy a pound of Ethiopian Harrar for $11 from Orleans Coffee
http://www.orleanscoffee.com/coffee/Ethiopian-Harrar.html
I often buy a pound of Indonesian Sumatra coffee (about $13.50/lb)
as well, and blend the two for a really special coffee to enjoy on weekends..

Weekdays running late is not a problem because I load the dripmaker the night before,
Its automated so it kicks on at 4:45 and its ready when I get up at 5.
so even if I snooze til 5:30 ... it awaits ... ("hot plate" turns off at 5:20- so no burned pot)

xTension Home automation - runs on near any old Mac -
(there is similar software to run on PCs)

Barista Prima House blend is a darn good cup of coffee out of a K-machine. but it is also expensive and the plastic is not so good for the environment.

Percolator with Yuban coffee starts my day. Not into the fancy stuff, just want good coffee.

My dad thought I needed one.So he bought it as a gift. I think they are a waste of time and money. I have only used it a couple times. Put it back in the box awaiting a garage sale. I'll stick with my BUNN.

Yea I ended up with a Bunn omatic. But I do waste a lot of coffee. Still use the Folgers. I got a really good vintage perculator but use that on the weekends.

I got a screaming deal on some Cuisinart Drip Coffee Makers a few years ago at a factory outlet. Basically, I bought three of them for the normal retail cost of one, and they threw in a free Cuisinart Waffle Maker. Cash speaks.

I have one in each home. I'm the only coffee drinker, and I've gotten very good at making enough for one large mug or two regular cups of coffee with no waste. The Cuisinart has a 2 cup brew selector. I assume many do. Thus, no waste.

I prefer fresh ground beans with hot water over a K Cup. But if only K Cups were available, then that's what I'd do.

I tried those cup things at my sister's house, not bad. But IMHO, nothing beats this with fresh-ground beans:

Got that Bodum Chambord "1928" 8-cup model french press for $34 shipped off of eBay. :D

I do not care about wasting a little coffee. I can make 6, 8, or 10 cups. The six cup amount comes out to two cups of coffee in my favorite coffee cup.

I would rather waste a little coffee, than settle for mediocre coffee.

I hate threads like this because now I want a cup of coffee. And if I have one, I'll never sleep tonight. Can't drink it past 2 PM. Oh well, tomorrow morning will come soon enough.

The wife and I drink a pot every night. We have no trouble sleeping. :D
