KG 5.5 Better Bass than Chorus 1 ?

I have both in my collection right now and continue to find comparisons of my KG 5.5's as preferable to other models (Heresy, Forte 2, and now Chorus 1). Now I like a two way so that not a big surprise but what is a surprise is how good the KG 5.5 bass compares to the Chorus (dual 10's versus single 15). It's simply tighter and more pronounced. Keep in mind the Chorus's are stock whereas the KG 5.5 have been Crites crossover upgraded and the cabinets internally braced.

Does this survive the sanity test? Any thoughts on Chorus bass?

Apples and oranges comparison when you consider the differences. When you include IM distortion at 100 db output, it's a different conclusion.
Good point. The Chorus are way more efficient and seem to have a hell of a lot of room left to push.

Also the 5.5 go a lot lower than chorus1, 34hz vs 45hz of the chorus so that will make a noticeable difference at most listening volumes in the average sized room . The Chorus will handle more power, are more efficient and can get a lot louder with a much stronger midrange freq, all depends on what you prefer. Both are great speakers but the 5.5 is the better value for the average price, 5.5s can be had for about $400-500 today, $250-400 in recent years before the covid price hikes, chorus were more like $700-800 pre 2020 and are $1000-1200+ today. Kg's are the best bang for the buck yesterday or today.

@Lance A. - I found that the Chorus 1s I owned had very good bass. I found they sounded best and provided the most bass when they were in corners. I wish I hadn't sold them.

Having said that, I haven't heard the 5.5s. Where do you typically place your speakers?

I have them out in the room. I can't really get to my corners in my listening room. I know the corners would increase the SPL, but can they tighten up the bass too? My guess is no, though.

I agree on the KG line. Great speakers and great value. Your comment on their frequency lows explains a lot. My test music in bass boosted electronica that often bounces around very low. Thanks for that insight.

I didn't find the bass of a Chorus flabby so not sure what you mean by tighten up the bass. In the corner,I found the bass better and the all around balance much better. Got excellent imaging that way, too.

I've moved them to the center of a long wall and they are indeed much better. I can't put them in the corners though without remodeling lol
