Kickin Kenwood Kabuki's in Kissimmee KL999

How's that for a headline? Anyway, I found these speakers 30 minutes from me in Kissimmee (from Craigslist). Kenwood KL-999X from the original owner, no real problems according to the owner except for some cosmetics on the cabinets for $125. Anyone know of these speakers? Should I go for it?

IB- au contraire, mon frere, these kabuki sound bombs may well be right down stormy, the retro porch blaster's alley, in which case he should load up and grab those babies.
 
I was going to replace my garage speakers with them (bottom of the line Klipsch). I thought these would sound better than those but I don't know. The Kenwoods do score high on the "neat-o scale"

For $125? No way. And Stormy, you'd probly be better off with the BOTL Klipsch in your geerage than these monstrosities. For $125 you could easily get a pair of Advent's that would probably sound worlds better than those "Kenwoods". Hell, you could probably get stacked Advents for that price!

It's unanimous - no Kenwood KL-999 Kabuki's for me. I'll keep shopping - I hit 2 or 3 estate sales a week so something will turn up. Thanks all!
 
When I was a 21 year old Marine on Okinawa, I bought a pair of the 999 Kenwoods. It was 1981 (where has time gone?) I lived in an open squadbay, with a total of 40 people in one long room. Every Friday we had a "battle of the bands" with each of us trying to listen to different music at the same time. This made high volume have a premium over musicality.

Those suckers were LOUD, without being able to reproduce any actual music. If you want loud noise instead of music, these puppies are for you. If you want the ability to have your ears ring for hours after turning off the stereo, these puppies are for you. If you want to listen to sound that is somewhat recognizable, while cutting wood on a table saw, these puppies are for you.

If you want to listen to music, look elsewhere.

I was a NERD Marine. I was a 4063, Computer Programmer. I was at Camp Courtney.
