KLH 12’s recap/tweeter

Hello,

I’m really excited. Just picked up a pair of KLH 12’s. I think the reason I was able to grab them was because it was listed as “Nice Old Speakers”. Wow, huge and heavy. They’re in really nice cosmetic shape. Woofers are tight. Seal is good. I connected them to my B&K AVR 507 and they clearly need to be recapped and, unfortunately, both tweeters are not working.

Can anyone out there advise me on the recapping needs and process for the 12’s? I’ve recapped 5s, 6s, 17s, and 20s so I’m comfortable there. Any other KLH models use the same tweeter?

Thanks as always, everyone!

All the caps are in the "contour control" boxes. There are quite a few of them and it's crowded in there so if you intend to upgrade to film caps you'll have to get creative. Also check the resistors, mine had a couple toasty ones. If you're lucky it's bad caps causing no sound from the tweeters, it's worth pulling them and checking with a multimeter. The tweeter is unique to the 12, it should be stamped M-12 on the frame (sellers love to claim that all KLH tweeters are the same, but they aren't...).
