KLH 23 recap/capacitors question

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a nice set of KLH 23's. I bought them knowing that the tweeters were no working because I figured a recap or cleaning of pot would fix the problem. I removed the tweeters and hooked them up to a receiver and fortunately for me they both work. I have had them same problem with other KLH speakers I have and the recap always does the trick. I've done quite a few recaps now all using dayton 1% or 5% caps and all the speakers sound great. My question is can someone suggest a different brand of capacitors that might pair better with vintage KLH than the Dayton's? I know this may be a tough question to answer because everyone likes what sounds good to them. But I thought maybe someone out there might have experience using the Dayton's and other brands with KLH and would know how they compare to each other. I have two dayton 4 mfd 1%'s on hand and that's all that I need. But I would be willing to shell out the extra money for some more expensive caps since there are only two of them. I have heard good things about claritycaps and sonicaps but would one of these really give me a better sound than the Dayton's? Or can someone suggest another brand along the same price point? I like the Dayton's but I have no experience with other brands so I have nothing to compare them to. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks

When I was going to recap my 6's, I asked the same question, and just about every response was they sound about the same and don't waste my money on expensive caps. I have two pairs of 6's and a pair of 17's, all recapped with Dayton's. They all sound fantastic and it didn't cost too much. Ultimately it's up to you how much you want to spend. Some guys buy in bulk cheap surplus caps that cost 20-30 cents each and swear by them.

That's the thing. A lot of people do say don't waste the money. But it seems like there are just as many other people that swear the more expensive caps have better clarity and are more detailed and things like that. I'm just a little confused now because to my ears as well the dayton/ KLH combo sounds fantastic. Maybe I should just stick with what I know. I already have the caps anyway.
 
I just recently recapped 2 pair of Epicure 120's, one "b" and the other "C", both have the same exact crossover the only diffrence is the "c's" have a L-pad w/pot for freq. adjustment while the "b's" have a high/low/normal switch . In the b's I used Dayton poly caps and in the c's more expensive Solens poly caps, both sound excellent and I personally can't tell much of a diffrence if any between the two. I have also used Parts Express electrolytic's in numerous speakers including KLH sixs and Seventeen and have been very pleased with the sound.
 
I recapped a KLH-23 a couple of years back for a customer who wanted a no-compromise upgrade. I used Auricaps amog a switch and coil change as well. The sound was incredible afterwards. I'm not sure to this day if all the 'blame' can go on the Auricaps, but I hated to ship those 23's back to the customer.

I ended up going with the auricaps. I guess I'm just curious about trying a brand other than dayton. About quadruple the price of the Dayton's but I had some money to blow, so what the hell. I was wondering, do you know the specs of the inductor coil you used to replace the original. Thanks

Why do you want to replace the inductor? Unless it somehow got damaged they don't wear out.

I wasn't really sure if I should or not. I read about people replacing them in large advents and wasn't sure if it was necessary. What about the resistors? Might they need replacing? I've never bothered to replace them before, just curious. Thanks

hi i just picked up a 23 this week that i want to recap, any chance you can still remember the specs of that capacitor i would need? thank you.
