klh 5 rebuild assembly

hi getting ready to reassemble klh 5s after long rehab of cabinets and crossovers. as you know these klh speakers are sealed at all face points all tweets, mids, and drivers. any benefit to sealing the crossovers to the cab? no gaskets or caulk on the tear down thought i read in the forum this is a good idea.... sealing the crossovers too? thoughts?

On my 5's there are rubber grommets that seal the pot posts.

I would. When I restored my KLH's, and had to put the metal plate back on, I had some of the white foam like what's used on the tweeters and cut gaskets to seal the plates, which I used screws instead of nails.

Post pics and lots of them from start to finish!

new veneer all the way around...! gotta re finish the black trim and reassemble with surgical care..... have some beautiful vintage-like cloth too. more later.....

befores on the other computer -- cabs were scabbed and bashed....chipped and stained. i probably have 15 hours in the cabs alone..... i dig learning new things.

Did the same on a pair of 1963 model 6's. It's very rewarding to restore these old beauties.

Did you use raw veneer or adhesive backed?

ive used only glue before ....paper backed. .these are adhesive back much easier with proper prep. i think i have $120 in veneer.... thats a lot. bought em for $50 stripped before knowing what the veneer cost. buyers remorse for a bit. "what was i thinking....." but now not so bad.

That's what I used on my 6's, same cost.

Prior to reassembly of the drivers to the cabinet, check to make sure that the plug between the midrange compartment and woofer is in tight. Look forward to pics of the finished product!

I concur with GD70. I cut a rectangular gasket out of a single thin foam sheet then used screws to reattach the crossover on my model 6. Seems to work but then I wouldn't really know how to tell if it's leaking a bit.

BTW...your veneer work looks awesome.
