KLH 6 (3rd version) Tweeter Question

Hello all,

I recently picked up a pair of KLH 6s that I absolutely love. They are the third version with screws in the baffles and inset terminal plate.

While I enjoyed them from the start, I realized they needed recapping. I also heard some distortion from one tweeter (on very high frequency sounds like piano) and figured that would go away after recapping. \

As you'd expect, the overall sound was remarkably better after the recap, but distortion was still present in that one tweeter. I removed the cage to check the this wiring connection on the cone. Everything was connected. In the process I damaged the tweeter so I think I'm past trouble shooting at this point. I need a replacement.

I've read up on the compatible models, none of which are available on Ebay right now (at least for a reasonable price). There is one tweeter from the model 7, which was epoxied right onto the wood front of the speaker (like the early version of 6). The seller simply cut around through the wood. I'm pretty sure it is the same tweeter. Would the process be as simple as removing the epoxy and then building some kind of adapter plate, re adhere the speaker to the plate, and screw the plate back in? Or am I better off waiting for the exact version of this tweeter that has the cage on it? Thanks in advance!

Physical resemblance, yes, but no one's compared the sound. One way to find out, eh?

Wait for a correct tweeter. Although both the early epoxy mounted tweeter and screw mount tweeters sound the same, why mess up the mounting surface of yours. These are very common, one will show up for a good price, and post a WTB in Barter Town.
