KLH Model 17 grille badges

I just picked up a very nice pair of KLH Model 17s that have no grille badges, nor do the grille frames show any evidence (no holes) that badges were ever attached. The former owner told be they are all original, and that early Model 17s didn't have badges. He is an audio collector and sounds like he knows his stuff. I'm just curious to know whether your 17s do or don't have grille badges. BTW -- I obtained these for a recent acquaintance but am thinking of keeping these and selling him my current pair of 17s as they are very clean, surrounds to be redoped but that's no problem. I need to test them to hear how they sound, though. :scratch2:

Early KLH 17's did indeed have grill badges....mine screw into the grill....on BOTH pair.

The one pair of 17's that passed through here had badges, but neither of the two pairs of 20's I currently own have them, nor do they show any evidence of ever having them.

Fell Off???

Some of the KLH 17s I have had badges that just fell off
at the slightest touch.
Left no glue mark on the grill and very little crusty old glue on
the back of badge.
The ones with the screw on badges are more obvious if missing.

One of my favorite speakers,especially after a recap.

Mine screw in as well, and the grills are only removable if the logos are removed. Perhaps you can date your speakers via the serial number. Also, there are different logos on the binding post plates. In fact, my pair has 2 different logos. I don't know the serial numbers of mine, but i can check them when i get home if it would help.

The KLH 17's with the black logo background came later than the silver logo background speakers.

My first pair of Model 17s have the screw-in type badges. The ones I just acquired -- for a friend...really -- may have had glue-on badges.

Oh well, my friend doesn't care either way.

And now he won't have to covet my 17s!!

you should keep them both and tell him you came to your senses in the nick of time. you buy 17's not sell them.
