KLH Model 20 Question

I acquired a set of KLH Model 20 speakers. They have the original boxes although a couple of the flaps are detached. One is still in white paper in the box and the other had been taken out at some point and the grill removed to inspect I guess. Everything looks good and only one small mark on that cabinet. I have not looked at the other one yet. The woofer surround is intact but the coating has dried and probably leaking air. I am guessing the crossover capacitors are dried out too. My question is I plan to sell these if possible as I am speaker poor(LOL), am I better off recoating the surrounds and doing the crossover update or leaving them as is before I sell. The boxes does have some wear and maybe a flat cardboard piece is not there but the cardboard corners are in both boxes. If the second speaker has never been unpack, I am guessing the cabinet is probably perfect but can check. Suggestion or ideas are appreciated.

Generally, it's probably best to just leave them as they are and sell them that way. They'll never be any more New In Box (NIB), New Old Stock (NOS) than they are now and if you mess with them that property will evaporate! Model 20s are pretty common but NIB/NOS Model 20s not so much. If you're keeping them to listen to swap caps and refresh the butyl sealant.

I would imagine they'd have a wider audience of buyers if these were in perfect restored condition, they would bring a higher price as well. Not many have the skill or knowledge to bring them to their former glory and you can sell them as being in like new condition.

This is my issue too. Two replies, opposite ideas. LOL I need to take the other one out to make sure there is no damage anywhere and I am enough OCD to be able to put it back exactly. I thought about keeping them, but have a set of Sansui SP-2000 almost restored, Pilot Model 170/172's in good shape, Realistic Mach 1'sI purchased new in 1978, JBL L100s to be restored and a set of Kenwood KL-650 to go through. Not sure which of the smaller speakers are going to sound the best until I fix all of them. I have a Sansui 5000x to got with one set, Fisher rs1060, pioneer SX 990, and a Yamaha CR620 when I get it fixed as well. I have other stuff but these are problem getting sold to create funds for other updates in my main system.
I do appreciate the help. Just tough decisions for me as I wish I could keep them all.

I HEAR you. My perspective is that of an accumulator of "vintage" gear of many types. There always seem to be offers of restored gizmos that have questionable restoration attempts foisted on them. The "NIB/NOS" condition removes that uncertainty and can provide the next purchaser with the ability to do it, or have it done, correctly or not at all. There are definitely wide variances in what qualities people are looking for in potential purchases of unnecessary lifestyle accoutrements!

I agree on the NOS and leaning that way. Though about putting them on the selling page here as I'm a member seeing what I can get. I am not in a hurry.
I got so much to work on but I really wanted to hear them and see if I like them better than something I already have too. I am working on a Rotel 855 cd player right now and a Realistic STA 2100d with a bad channel. I just picked up a vintage Tektronics AA501 Harmonic Distortion meter for tuner alignment and output analysis. Cant wait to get it checked out and operational. Got a 4 channel scope but this AA501 is a gem for vintage stuff especially tuners. Like I said, I am a little OCD about things and like everything I work on to be as good possible within limits. I am only 68 but started audio in my early teens. Music and motorcycles. they were my drugs of choice back then and still are.

It would be best to leave them untouched if you post them for sale on BT. Buyers here are more well versed regarding stereo equipment and would not hesitate to purchase NOS or NIB popular items.
