Pulled the plug on a pair of KLH 22 with out research. I saw this vintage pair of speakers and put in what I thought was an initial low offer. I thought I would do some research and bid higher if needed. Well I did not find any info here on AK and I won. I have found some info which leads me to not be too impressed. Any AK'ers with experience with this model? Are they rare? How do they compare with the KLH 17? thanks

I believe I have a pair of KLH 22's bought them about 2 years ago at the salavation army. If I am not mistaken they are an 8 inch 2 way unit. Mine are currently packed away in my shed along with approx 140 other speakers I own. I used them for awhile in my bedroom in my opinion they are a decent little bookshelf system. I have heard far worse, and I don't believe they are all that plentifull.

140 Speakers? Jayzus dude, what are you accumulating all those for? Do you ever sell any?

and I thought I had alot with 8 pairs - lol.

I would be curious to know what, of all those, you designate as the cream of the crop.

Step away from the ipod, sir!

I've said it before, when all digital equipment fails to work as a result of a "world-wide virus", WE WILL RULE THE WORLD!!!!

HewLew1 is stocking our PA speaker repository! :thmbsp:

Just for the record, I'm in love with my KLH Model 105's. They sound astonishing, and the cabinets are amazing (all surfaces are walnut veneer - sides, top, bottom, front and back!).

I'm wondering why some of these early KLH's don't get the recognition that Acoustic Research gets. After all, didn't Henry Kloss come from AR?

Maxseven, I am kind of attached to the Carver Amazing Original version speakers (in black laquer) and the Carver Amazing Platinums (in oak) those are cream of the crop in my opinion.:thmbsp:

How about a KLHARADVENT?

It is my understanding that there are a few KLHs that are revered!

When you consider that Henry was involved with AR, KLH and Advent, it's no wonder that they all have a "family resemblance" in their sound!

Don't forget his Advent TV! It was said for a long time that he produced the Advent Loudspeakers primarily as a way to generate revenue for research and development costs of the TV!

Some nice speakers in all 3 lines, but a great variance as well.

The only thing he did that I have any part of is a Tivoli radio, but my audio preference is just a different sound than any of those 3.

I still admire him greatly, as well as many other Audio legends!

70Salesguy,I am holding on to several tube pieces for when the pulse comes. I will probably be dead by then LOL.

Those are beauties -- similar to my AL-III's (in the ribbon department).

i have a pair of klh 22's and they are among my favorite small speakers. i even have a orphan i refuse to part out(if you have a orphan let me know). i paid a small mint for mine but am real happy with the condition they are in. they are not as common as most other klh models. there is also a klh 22a model, i'm not sure what the difference is.

as far as small comparable speakers go i have the kenwood kl-220, sansui sp-30, and ar-4x speakers. the klh 22's stomp the crap out of them all.

slightly bigger models that i have that the klh 22's keep up with are the klh 17's, pioneer cs-33a (sold), sansui sp-50, sansui sp-35' which are the only small speaker that has more thump than the klh 22's.

I personally love the early KLH speakers. I run sixes with a fisher tube integrated and they sound wonderful. They sound equally good with solid state. I can't remember if I've heard the 22, but I have the 17 and 32 and while I like the 6 better, they are great speakers. Some of them, possibly the 22, were voiced to run with KLH all-in-one type sets and are 4 ohm. So I've heard, but I have no experience with them besides seeing them at the thrift stores.

The 22's are 8 ohm. They sound great with my Scott 222 integrated tube amp.

I found a pair of 22's on the curb. The cabinet's are beat up but they sound great with my SS gear. They have cloth surrounds so no worries about refoaming.

Need advice!! Got my KLH 22's yesterday and here is my comparison using one 22 and one 17, using pioneer sa 9800 amp. The klh 17 had louder volume with distinct musical seperation. The volume had to be kicked up too loud to hear the 22. The klh 22 alone have a fine and mellow tone. They are quite low on the treble at low volume but kicks in nicely at high volume, They have mild bass without overkill. The KLH 17 win you think, except I asked my wife and she like the 22's. No! I am not getting rid of my 17 nor my wife but I was wondering and learning about the various specs of speakers as well as my wife's hearing. Question? is it normal tht there should be such a hugh difference in volume in these speakers? Why do the smaller KLH 22 need so much more power to shine. Overall I like the KLH 22 but I like to listen and feel the music at low volumes which the 22 don't provide. Should a smaller quality receiver serve the 22's well? Input appreciated.

Smaller volume and smaller drivers = lower sensitivity. A 3db difference requires 2x the power to overcome.
