KLH Model 23 - $85 on Chicago CL

I'd put the Sixes aside and go get those. They sound much better than the Six IMO, especially when re-capped. That's a fair price for a pair in really good shape. KLH's best 2 way speaker and very under-appreciated.

^ I can attest to that first hand. I bought my KLH twenty-threes from audiojones, right above, for about the same price. Although he'd also recapped them and did a little external TLC, so my deal was a bit better. :) But I have to say, these are beauties. Very musical, good bass representation. The highs are a little rolled off, but that's fine for a lot of music types. Plus, they're one of the best looking speakers of the AR, Advent, and KLH models from that era. I'd say go get 'em. :thmbsp:

Aside from the enigmatic KLH Nine, the Fives ane Model Twenty-Three are my hands down favorite KLH speakers.

I noticed them but I will pass! Great deal but no need now!

I have printed out your response just so I have it on record that you actually passed on picking up some vintage gear...... :D

Actually I am in the same boat. A pair of 23's are available in my area for $75 but I passed on them just because I have too many quality speakers as it is. Need to spend money on getting the x-overs on the 5's fixed before I bring another pair of KLH's into the house.

Thanks for weighing in, everybody. Now I'm really tempted, but I still may have to pass--my wife is a very patient woman, but I think she'd shriek if I brought another pair of speakers into our place right now. We just don't have the space. I'm in pretty much the same situation as Wolverine.

It sounds like whoever picks up the 23's is going to be happy.

I have a set and the cabinets are not as nice as those, and I was going to sell them, but maybe I will refurb them instead. Not to often you get real wood in a speaker. They did sound nice when I have them hooked up, and I hadn't recapped them yet either. Hmm, maybe a winter project.

I have had two pair of 23s. Gave the lessser of the two away and kept the nice ones. They are a very nice speaker. Recapping will pay great dividends in sound. Pretty easy recap too. I have fives also. I think both represent KLHs best efforts.
