KLH Model 23 - Replacement Drivers

Hello,

I recently acquired a non-working set of KLH Model 23's. Both woofers and 1 tweeter are bad. I'm aware that woofer is the same as that used in the Model 5 and that the tweeters are the same as those in the models 6, 17, and (maybe) the 20's. Not sure about the XO's at this point. I also have a single Model 6 that seems to work OK.

I'm looking for advice here on possible replacement drivers other than buying used stuff and whether or not this is even a good idea.

Any advice from the KLH owners here would be appreciated.

Wouldn't use replacements, get good used woofers and tweeters from Model Five, Twenty Three or Twelve. The tweeters look the same as the ones from the Model Six and Seventeen but they are listed as having different cone dimensions and characteristics. The woofers are an oddball size (something like 10 3/4" or 11", not a conventional size) and they are very hard to kill unless your amp goes berserk. The crossover is a simple 4 mfd capacitor. Change it out, the originals are junk.

If you haven't checked the crossovers, your tweeter may be just fine. Touch a 1.5V battery to the leads - if you hear a pop, the tweeter works great.

While you're speculating, I've got those and a pair of Bolivar 64's with bad woofers.

Coincidentally I also have 9 pair (+1 single) of Minimus 7's that would benefit from the Xmas XO project, and no ability to build things, just a thought. :scratch2:

in Germany there's a working single 23 to have probably for cheap, I could get it and bone out and send you the drivers...

I've put this project on hold for a while though I do have a line on another set of drivers. I'm assuming also that sending the drivers from Germany would be more expensive than picking some up in the US. Appreciate the thought though very much.

if it would've been a 17 I'd bought it for storage.... it was one single speaker!
it ended w/o a bid, so there's still a chance. I'd keep the box and the tweeter what should be identical to 17... and send you the woofer. sure, shipping will exceed the price to buy it
