KLH Model 30

I killed it at Goodwill again today with and unusual pair of KLH Model 30’s for $18. They sounded terrific as is but I’ve got one recapped already. Not a huge difference but noticeable.

apparently these were part of a complete stereo package. Some say the are 17’s in disguise (check out the crazy grill cloth) but I can say for sure they are not. I have 17’s and 32’s and the crossover was different than both.

The speaker posts have been changed out but the had to have done it from the outside because these have never been opened up before.

Anyway... good score.

Same drivers as the Six in a smaller box, so, yeah, not equivalent to the Seventeen.

Both recapped and setup for listening. These are really really good speakers. Soundstage is as good or better than anything in my collection. That includes some very good speakers.

So far I’ve found that the early KLH speakers are very good at imaging and have sound stages approach and maybe reaching 180 degrees. If I play some binaural stuff I swear I’m getting glimpses of 360 degree sound with these and my model 5’s.

what a score today. $18.

Great buy, love the 1960s hippy speaker cloth! I'd guess not as bassy as the Six, with less cabinet volume, but I'll bet they're great. I have Fives, Seventeens, and Twenty Threes, wish I still had my old Sixes to round out the collection.

I have 5’a, 17’s, the 30’s mentioned here, and my first KLh’s, 32’s.

the 5’a came with a bad tweeter. I’ve temporarily replaced them Both with some old fisher cones while I track down a replacement. But I can tell the 5’a are going to be the best of the lot. The mids are outstanding with the enclosed dual cones. I’ve recapped all of them and I may go back into the 32’s and try a high dollar capacitor just to see if I can tell there is a difference.

the 32’s blew me away with their detailed soundstage and set me on the KLH path. Plus they just sounded “big” for their size. I call them the little speakers than “can” lol
