KLH Model 5 - all bass, no mid or tweeter

IMHO you will kill resale and start a science project by not using the original drivers. People looking to buy a KLH 5 because they want a KLH 5 even if the components are way better it is no longer a KLH 5.

A couple of options. Find the drivers used and tested on the Bay. Or talk to a place like Simply Speakers or Midwest Speaker or equivalent and find out if there are newer drivers that will work. Could even be a way to upgrade. I did just find some used mids a minute ago on Ebay.

Depends on whether or not you want to keep everything original or just get them going. Personally I have no problem with putting in newer drivers as long as the parameters match up well. And tweeters are cheap. Even some decent domes.
Those are good temporary options. Also, set up a search/notification on fleabay for mids and tweets. I bought mids for one of my pairs of Fives a couple years ago, they are out there. Other option would be to turn them into Twenty Threes while you wait for mids, but that would take some crossover work.

Seems strange that you would have 5 drivers with open voice coils. How are you measuring them? In the picture, it looks like your red lead is touching one terminal and the black lead is maybe touching the metal basket. Don't use the metal basket for measuring DCR, just use the two terminals.

Sure, it's possible that somebody cranked them hard enough to blow all those drivers. I've seen worse.

Yes, it does look like I am touching the metal basket (I was touching the terminal on both). It was hard to get a photo showing both terminals and the multimeter. AND holding the iPhone. :)

If the 5 are anything like the 12 I used to have the mids are wired in series so if one is blown neither will work. The fabric is pretty standard, it keeps the fiberglass away from the speaker cones (some drivers have mesh glued to the baskets, it accomplishes a similar thing).

I would not spend that kind of money on another set of 5 just to get the mids and tweets. It's worth sending him a message, explaining your situation, and seeing if you can buy just the spare drivers. Some sellers are quite reasonable.

Thanks! Advice taken! I did reach out to the seller and he was not budging on price, nor was he willing to sell mids and tweeters separately. Worth a try :) If you guys come across anything give me a holler. You know I'm in the market :)

I have now set up alerts on fleabay, and started meditating. Patience is not one of my virtues...

Would love to start stripping/sanding the cabinets, but seems like I should wait and see if I can get anything out of the speakers before going down that route...

I am trying to restore a pair of 5s now. I found one tweeter did not play, and there was a break in the tiny tiny lead in wire, and that is repairable with some patience and a magnifier.
