KLH Model 6 with home made cabinet?

Ive been browsing eBay for the past couple of months with intentions to buy an early pair of KLH model 6's to do some TLC to and I found these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/KLH-Model-S...d052a2e&pid=100033&rk=4&rkt=4&sd=121953429603
I am willing to spend the money for them but i am concerned that one of the cabinets (the one on the left) is a home made cabinet... it doesn't have the 12 layer plywood in its construction like the other one pictured does and it looks like the back has been glued back on... should i go for them or should i leave them? thanks

My 2 cents....your are in Cape Cod, seller is in Iowa. $90 plus shipping? I would think similar KLH's, AR's, or Advents would be readily available in your neck of the woods. I would shop around locally first. Just me...

ive been looking for a pair ever since I had to part with the others (4 years)... ive found a few pairs of later models at yard sales but i want an older pair... the same speakers with the same finish were passed down to me by me grandfather and ever since i had to get rid of them, ive been killing to get another pair because of how they sound and nostalgia.
these are, to me, in really good nick too!

The joinery at the corners looks right. Not sure about the number of plies. Klh used whatever capacitors were available cheap, so they may have done the same with plywood. I have no evidence of that however.
 
Price aside, I went & looked at the original pictures. I think that there is veneer covering the plies on that one that is missing on the other. If the rest of the deal looks good to you, I wouldn't let that stop you.

the serial numbers are as follows:

could that be why the cabinets are made of 2 different woods?
 
Novaply must have been a fairly decent substitute. It still surprises me they
used actual plywood for the backs, such as in yours.

Readily available? In my neck of the woods the first occasion will be in 10 years, and price will be few times that.
I feel some lucky people still live in 20th century.

They are original cabinets. The early ones.

I was not attempting to discourage OP, just replying to his question. Vintage KLH, AR, Advent, BA, and others are out there. Certainly in the Northeast where these speakers were made. I did a quick CL search in Boston area and found three pair of Sixes. Even found ad for the KLH NINE!!

I know a guy near Boston with an extra set of Sixes that could go live on Cape Cod but they aren't early ones in plywood cabinets. PM sent.
