'67, when I get my parts and get into this, I'll take and post lots of pictures, hopefully it will be easy. This might inspire you and/or others to tackle this sort of project, as there's nothing quite so satisfying as fixing something yourself. I'm a mechanic by trade, so this is one thing I think I know.
 
Be sure to test your 40 year-old resistors!

Time for a little update:

I received most of my PE order today, 3uF caps are backordered but I was assured that they would ship Monday.

So I thought I would get moving a little on this project, pulled apart the other speaker, and removed the x-over plate. Broke out the DMM and commenced to testing the components. I found that both the 6ohm resistors are showing 0.0 to 0.1 ohms. NOT GOOD. D'oh! I guess I'll be placing another PE order. Might as well replace all the resistors, I suppose. From the schem I see that the 6ohm is right in line with the tweeter, probably part of the no tweet problem.

Will using 10w or 12w high grade resistors such as the Mills or Dayton present any problems? Originals are 5w.

I found that most, if not all, of the caps were quite a bit out of spec too. I I am glad they are getting replaced.

I want to clarify one thing before soldering. When wiring two caps in parallel you lay them on top of one another and twist the leads together, correct?

If you were wiring two caps in a series, you would connect only one lead to another, right?

I am really getting impatient with these darn things, I know that they were made somewhere around 1968 so this type of thing is to be expected, but I want less workie and more listenie.

I guess working on them is half the fun though...and of course, patience is a virtue!
 
For the final installment. A few pics of the re-capped x-over. I had more, but something seemed to have happened with my camera. I'm not pulling them open again to take more.

After some guidance and some testing I found all resistors to be fine and well within specs.

Used the Ace Hardware rope caulk to seal everything backup, I like they way that stuff feels, I suppose it will get hard though. I think I read that somewhere. I've also read that this stuff works well for dampening TTs. I have a Technics SL-D5 I might have to use the rest of this on.

I had one screw hole strip out. Shoot!

It's really nice to hear the tweets again, as well as hearing a difference in sound when fiddling with the cps switches, although I haven't been able to really listen to the Fives yet (finished them two night ago, but have a roommate that goes to work at 2am.) So short auditions at very low volumes is all I've heard so far. I am really excited and quite proud of these.

What's the deal with cap burn in?
