KLH Model Six "Epoxy Tub"

I'm in the process of restoring a Pair of KLH Model 6's. Mine are 1964 vintage, so have the epoxied woofers but the screwed in tweeters. I've taken the approach outlined in other posts of removing the back plate, knocking out the epoxy plug behind it, then using a 2x2 to knock out the fronts. The speaker cloth was in terrible condition, so retaining it was not an option.

Everything is generally tracking well, but my question involves when I put it back together. The plug that sealed the back clearly made it a solidly sealed cabinet. Do I need in some way to replicate it when I put them back together to get the original seal? 1/2 inch of epoxy will clearly resonate differently than just the metal plate. I had thought about rebuilding it out of wood glue and sawdust so it would be somewhat like the original seal. Or am I overthinking this?

You can use various things like plumbers tape thats a soft putty. Parts Express sells a speaker sealing rope that you can hand role to the diameter you need and apply it to the basket rim, or around the hole in the cabinet.
I've used the rope from PE before it worked very well.

I mounted my binding posts to a piece of 1/4" oak ply that was larger than the hole. Used the old pin holes to screw it in and some weathersttip to seal. You are correct, you want that air tight.

That thin adhesive backed weather stripping works well too. I still have a role of it left over.

So did you move it inside the original hole or outside over it?
