Hello all, my first forum post.

I just picked up a set of KLH nines after extensive researching on this forum and others. They're in pristine cosmetic condition but the power supplies need to be rebuilt (and hopefully that's all that needs to be done).

I would appreciate any recommendations for refurb options. I know David Janszen is an option for rebuild but a bit on the pricier side.

Don't know much about 9's, except they're rare and highly regarded. Looks like the power supplies/crossovers are potted in some sort of epoxy goop, so just getting to the components would be an adventure. Best of luck; from what I've heard, owning a pair of functioning 9's is a real treat.
 
I looked into some Nines a while back. Decided against them because I am a novice with electronics. David Jansen will answer emails and does give some general advice on how to do some things. The power supplies are in wax. The trick is melting the wax at a low enough temperature to get it out and not damage anything. You may find some advice via google. Best of luck. I wish I had had more guts a few months ago. Pristine cosmetics, and only 400 dollars. I still may kick myself for that.

Yes, and I debated over and over on them. Talked to David Janzen about them. Really wanted to give it a try, but worst case costs kept me from pulling the trigger. If someone on here got them and they were good, I'd love to hear about it. If close to where I live, would love to hear them.

I was following them on CL, but with no intention of buying. Never seen them available down here in Florida. It appears the OP grabbed them. Congrats and good luck.

This an old thread but Codis is my son and I participated in the adventure that eventually led to the Nines being brought up to excellent functioning condition. They now reside in Ohio with me and I can say, I've not heard many speakers that compare to the Nines. Plus, we met David Janzen as we had to transport these for him to work on a couple different times. It was fun to meet him and hear about his father and to also experience his lab and new speaker products which are nothing short of amazing as well...All in all, not a bad adventure and ultimately no where near a worst case scenario as far as the cost to get them up to snuff...

Thanks for taking the time to give us an update. Nothing like a good father/son project. I'm sure in this case the 9's were secondary.
