KLH PR-950S...Opinions?

I have a chance to pick up some of these. They are in excellent condition, hardly a mark on them and come with the grills (photo does not show them). I was wondering if anybody on here has heard these, and what their opinion of the sound is. I don't need a extreme in-depth synopsis, I just like to would like to know whether these are worth getting and listening to or should they be thrown in a dumpster.

They should be thrown in a dumpster. These were made long after KLH's prime time. Not worth it at all.

I had a chance to get a perfect set of these for $50. Not bad sounding for a game room or garage. Unlike most, I still appreciate the KLH's that came after their prime. They can be a bit muddy, but the mids and highs aren't bad at all. Having said that, I probably wouldn't give more than $40 for a perfect pair.

Wow, I knew my memory was getting bad. I actually DO have a pair of these in the basement. The ones I passed on were a different set and I don't remember where I got the 950's. As an added note, most of them come with thin cabinets. If in a better cabinet, they would probably sound alot better.

For better or worse, I have a pair of these (bought for under $60) and I'm looking for an amp to power them in a modest 12x14 bedroom. I have a set of Polk Audio Monitor 5B's that can be used as rear (or other) speakers.

I play rock and metal. Nothing else.

Any suggestion on an amp?

What wattage I would need?

By the way, it would be too funny if I am the owner of the OP's speakers (I see he is in Cinci too). I bought them in an antique store in Evandale? about a month ago.

Thanks.

I have these also now mind you have a 70s system but I got a nice equalizer and they sound phenomenal I'm in a big living room very nice just thought I'd share and shed some light on something a lot of people are putting down but to each their own good luck

I have mine in a huge rec room and out of the 40 pairs of speakers I own they're some of my favorites.Mid to highs are a bit muted but bass is outstanding.I see most people on audio sites bashing them as garbage and complaining the lows are muddy but as a percussionist I find the warm deep tone to be exquisite! If you've never heard the tone of a live Ampeg tube amp you have no idea what real bass sounds like. The tight punchy bass on most recordings is a sound engineers idea of what you should like! You will never get bass like this out of a tower speaker(I have plenty). Also, they are very efficient, requiring only a few watts to get cranking (similar to my Altec VOTTs) but can handle a whole lot more.
