Klipsch Forte l vs Klipsch Heresyll

Hello everyone, I bought a pair of K Forte l looking for more bass. I went over a friend’s house to connect them side by side with a pair of K Heresy ll using electronic switches to avoid that gap while disconnecting/ connecting. I hoo them up to a Marantz 2237 and a Dynaco preamp. Despite I get more bass, it comes out very muddy, not very defined. I like the fact that midrange and tweeter sound more balanced on Fortes that K Heresies but the sharpness of bass on Heresies ll is noticeably clean, pure.
I’ve tried opening both of our the fortes to check their crossovers but they look physically in good condition ( capacitor not blown, clean circuit). Since I don’t have a way to try a second pair of K Forte to compare them with mine I wanted to post my question for the all Klipsch fanatics out there.

I run this speakers with a Marantz 2245. As source I used mp3 files, tapes and vinyl with the same result. Even tried using the cables the K Heresy was using and no changes. The K Forte still sound with lack of definition on woofer Like if additional frequencies were mixing creating harmonics. Cone in both woofers oscillate a lot compared to the K Heresy that don’t even move at same volume. Mids and highs sound amazingly better to me ( my friend still likes those mid/highs on his K Heresy( matter of taste).

That’s something I had in mind on my next step. Bribe ny friend so he can let me take one his woofers down from his K Heresies and install it in my forte. Then if they work fine, just buy new woofers.

I suspect the muddy bass is caused by the back mounted drone. Overall frequency response would be smoothed by this set up but wouldn't be as clean as just straight bass reflex.

I've found that the passive radiator needs to be away from the wall. Mine are 16" away from the wall. and away from corners. The Heresy is down 3db at 50hz. Which may be why it sounds cleaner to you. Very little bass. The Forte goes 3db down at 32hz, I think.

Please don't get me wrong, if I had to choose between the Forte or the Heresy, it would be the Forte hands down.

I know, I really love the sound of mid and high on the Forte but the definition on the bass on the heresy is substantial. Maybe the woofer on the Heresy doesn’t reach the lows of the Forte and that’s why it sounds less cloudy and contaminated. One thing about this forte is that if they were deigned as a step up from the heresies, they should offer more bass while keeping the quality of that bass. I’ll move the speakers around ( away from the walls to see how this relocation affects their performances).
