Klipsch got bought ??

hugeroost

Super Member
I was on another forum and they were talking about hoe Klipsch had been bought out last year by....gasp...audiovox or some crap like that. According to these guys its the end of Klipsch as we know it. It really bummed me out, just when I"m getting to where I can afford such things their gonna turn it into shyt, like a department store brand. Can someone on here tell me whats up ??

And also whats the deal with joining the Klipsch Community forums ? I filled out the stuff like three days ago and am still waiting for the confirmation email to turn me on. I figure several of you guys here are members of that forum also..thanks, Roost

You can go to the Klipsch forum and read about it till your eyes roll out of your head. So far so good nothing bad and plenty of good. PWK is still minding the shop. Best regards Moray James.

From where, the Great Beyond? He died almost ten years ago. I presume you meant Fred.

Bottom line, Klipsch is now just another brand, prostituted and bastardized by its subsequent owners, much like KLH, Boston, AR, Fisher and other great brands from the Golden Age of hifi. And Polk is edging ever closer to that abyss.

That happened last year Voxx International owns a few iconic brands such as RCA,Jensen,AR,Klipsch, Advent etc and by proxy Energy as well
and some others. Voxx is a U.S. based international conglomerate. RCA was once the worlds largest electronics co. now just a brand. Maybe Voxx saved Klipsch?
Chrysler and GM almost met that fate now they are Fiat/Chrysler and Government Motors. Pontiac,Plymouth and recently Saab and others are gone . GE,Boeing and others are moving into China in a big way. No one is immune from geopolitical and
economic forces. Rolls Royce,Bentley , Jaguar,Volvo and Aston Martin also come to mind . here are a couple of threads on AK regarding the Klipsch sale. Altec as knew it is no more at least JBL is still viable under HK stewardship I hope Klipsch does well.

Daimler Benz almost ruined Chrysler then Cerebellus almost finished them off.
I hope they fare better under current circumstances Ford looks encouraging .
This is an interesting read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audiovox#Company_Brands

Maybe time to stock up on a dozen or so NIB models of the Heritage Line and store them for retirement. I wonder what a pair of NIB K'horns will go for say in 40 years, sadly at 63, this idea will not work for me.

The jury is still out. The buy out hinges on the intent of AudioVox. Will they be the kind of corp that bleaches the bones of Klipsch- or will they put meat back on them? Judging from the new console speaker concept recently introduced they might indeed put some meat back on their bones. I say stayed tuned. These corperate buy out things have legs of their own most times- I thing it is no differant here.......

I agree dc270. I have not seen anything yet out there to warrant all of the gloom and doom talk. I'm in a wait and see mode myself, but am encouraged by the statement piece console they have planned.

Paul Klipsch sold the company in 1989 and things seemed to carry on rather well. The buyer Fred Klipsch brought in new investor VantagePoint Venture Partners for some piece of ownership in the company, perhaps a majority interest. Again things seemed to carry on rather well. Then Audiovox (VOXX) bought out Fred, VantagePoint and many others. Things still seem to be going well.

I've heard some truly crappy products with the Klipsch name on them, but the difference is that Klipsch is still making their classically excellent products and developing new ones aimed (and being well received) by the audiophile market. It remains to be seen if this trend continues.

Well, those of us that cherish big loudspeaker designs and sound, we may be reverting to the days when all we could get were plans, kits and component parts. Not necessarily a bad thing - Heathkit or Radio Shack, anyone? Lord knows, the loudspeaker field and the people who have worked in this industry for the last 80 years have certainly left us with some amazing designs and technologies to work with.

I guess as long as they keep making the heritage series and dont screw with them I"ll live. My friend says best buy sells some Klipsch stuff, never thought i"d see that........Roost
