Klipsch Heresy Anomaly

Hi All, thank for any help/ ideas... I have a pair of 1980 Klipsch Heresy HWO Speakers (according to the serial number tracker I found online) that have a few odd anomalies.

The Serial numbers for the pair are sequential 97U591 and 97U592
The Type on one of the Speakers says IV HWO and the other just says HWO
All the drivers on both pair are stamped with a Red letter H
The speaker with the IV HWO has a extra Tweeter attachment with two wires leading off the crossover two a separate thing attached to the speaker cabinet top
The Squawkers are the solder type (I don't think this is relevant)

I posted this on the Klipsch Forum and haven't heard back so I thought I'd see if anyone here has ever seen something like this... I asked google and an AI bot said these were experimental Paul Klipsch center channel speakers from back in the day...

Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Do you mean Klipsch Korner here or the Klipsch community forum?

It's unfortunate that the letters are IV because obviously a search brings up the newest model.
 
Hi opnly, sorry I mean Klipsch community... and yes it's a bit tough with the IV in the name :) It's been a total dead end finding anything about this. I've looked at a lot of pics and haven't seen any with these things in the pics... Thanks for responding. I thought about emailing Klipsch but customer services is probably full of a bunch of young computer nerds, lol... search goes on. Have a great day my Friend!
 
I will report your post to get a mod to move it to The Klipsch Korner and possibly get more knowledgeable eyes on it.

For you it should be, it's best K55 version with dual phase plugs.

That additional thing on red wires are protective zener diodes for tweeter. They should be on crossover board. But I guess they where only in Type HIE corssover in Heresy. Maybe it's out of factory mod. What type XO you have, I'm not able to spot it from your pictures (its on XO board edge label).

It may become the best way to answer some questions...eventually. Depends on how many and manner in which it's used. Me? I have a library card with a well funded/staffed branch.

Thank you for the info Bacek, greatly appreciated! The X-over is an E type and upon closer inspection they both have zener diodes but they're both attached to different areas of the inside of the speaker cabinets... very interesting.

It actually popped up on the Google search although it only happened once, and I can't get it to pop up again? It may be interesting to try to do a straight up ask... BTW I love the Ayn Rand quote, I pretty much lived my life this way and it drive my kids crazy :)
 
Are those wires to zeners exactly the same as one inside XO? Or only simillar?
That IV marking on label is done using same "hand" and pen? Or is it possible that some one added that IV later? Hard to judge from the picture.

Good questions and now that I look closely if I had to put on my forensic detective hat and was forced to make a call I would say it's different... The wiring looks the same but also under scrutiny it sure does look awful clean... It's almost as if these were rebuilt using all Klipsch OEM parts to original specs and they added the zeners while they were at it... maybe the H stamp means these drivers are new old stock off the shelf parts? lol....

I would not worry too much. Those red stamps can be seen on k55 here and there. Only anomaly are zeners diodes on type E and especially mounted like that. I bet they where not factory added. Those are just normal Heresy I version.
Third serianl number character is capital U. It means 1980. For sure pre 1983 as then woofer was swapped for K24. So every component (except of zeners) feats for 1980 year model.

As for being clean, Heresys are closed speakers so I would not expect dust inside anyway.

I've opened a bunch of those up. They're always clean clean as the box is sealed. Not even dust in there.
