Klipsch Heresy II

I just caught wind of a set of mint condition Klipsch Heresy II speakers for sale locally for $550 . I've never heard any Klipsch speakers before so I have no idea how my old rock I listen to via CD's and Ipad through my Marantz 2238b and 2245 would sound. Right now I have an old set of Technique M5's I use that sound good but I tend to have to turn down the midrange and treble if that says anything. All I know about Klipsch Heresy III speakers is they would be easy to drive.
Can I get some input of what I can expect?

$550 Canadian? What's that in USD? Mint sets in my area go for $375-425. $550 USD would be worth it if they had Crites upgrades. Though "what to expect" is subjective, IMO expect to have super clear highs and mids (great for jazz, guitar, and soft rock) with not so great bass. I would recommend raising them up about 8" off the ground and about 12" away from the wall. HII's are responsible for me changing my likes in genre's of music and created a fun game where I could point out parts of music, I was super familiar with, I never noticed before.

Your review of them makes me think they may not be worth the money for what I listen to, I'm not much into picking out parts of the music.
 
Don't get me wrong, I listen to a ton of 70-80's UK music (metal, ska, mod), they sound great to me with everything. The above example was where I noticed they shined. I would also recommend a small powered sub with these if bass is key to your listening.
 
My other buddy has a set that is connected to a Sansui AH-517 , I'm not sure if the speakers would sould the same if they were connected to my Marantz but its worth a try before commiting to something.
 
The key word is Mint condition. Quick eBay search shows that great condition Heresy are $1,000 speakers.

As for above comment "Mint sets in my area go for $375-425.", I guess some people live on other planet. In my area last set of Heresy was in 2005, and it was not even close to Mint.

Heresy are great with Marantz 2238B; I used this combo. And I don't experienced any luck of bass, as people like to say.
The only reason I sold Heresy is because of larger Klipsch Heritage.
And this would be your biggest danger.
 
Must be a different eBay than I'm looking at. IMO, they're the wrong speakers for rock unless you add a sub, though the bass "problem" isn't as bad as some say if you get the position right.

Is upgrading to Crites just a matter of changing Caps?

Biggest thing I'm dealing with is I don't like spending and not being able to touch and feel the object, so its more a matter of either travelling to find and hear or finding whats available locally.
 
The caps yes, it's pretty easy (mine were 3 caps per speaker). The diaphragms, if you're not satisfied after caps, can be purchased from Crites and installed yourself. Does this mean you purchased the HII's? I think you'll be super excited when you hear them.
 
The crossover update is super easy with the Bob Crites kit. If you can solder, it should be a breeze. Crossovers are easily removable from the cabs and very easy to work on. I haven't done the diaphragms on mine yet. If they are in really great shape, that price is not unreasonable and you could probably resell for the same if you don't like them.

As others have said, placement is important to get the most out of them, and they won't blow you over with bass. But the detail you get with these speakers is really incredible. I don't find them tiring as some do, but you'll have to give them a try and judge for yourself.

Haven't bought them yet, I have a Jolida fxglass fx tube dac 2, coming and I'm going to bring it up to my buddys that has a set of Heresy II's and try the two together. He is more up on alll this stuff then I'll ever be.

Dis, with 1 watt of power those speakers will sing. Normal listening level, for me, is 1/10th a watt.
