Klipsch Hersey's 4 or 8 OHM ?

Hi
I hooked up a realistic STA-2080 to my Herseys and the sound that comes out is distorted .
On the back of the receiver it says to use only 8 or 16 ohm speakers.I hooked
up the receiver to my technics M5 speakers which are 8 ohm and they
sounded great.
So my question is are hersey's 4 ohm?

Highly efficient speakers like the Heresys will sometimes reveal unsuspected amplifier performance problems that may be due to incorrect bias, component deterioration, or poor design. ...Assuming that the Heresys are not defective, of course.

Maybe the "horn" sound isn't what he's looking for. Seriously, the Heresy should sound good powered by an I-pod even. Those you have probably have issues. Tried them with anything else?

Hersey's 4 or 8 ohm

Hi
I found the problem after switching the receiver from one room to another and
different speakers and different speaker wires.
The only thing different was the power bar so I went out and got a new power bar and it cleared up the problem.
There must of been a short or something in the power bar.The old power bar was old and the light didn't come on anymore.
It took me 4 hours of switching wires and speakers to narrow it down to the
power bar.
I guess it is lesson I will remember.
Thanks for info and help>

Look on the back of the speakers. Most will say they are 8 ohms but my pair from late 85 and early 86 are labeled 4 ohms. I understand that they actually have a nominal impedence of 6 ohms.

Nearly all speakers vary impedance considerably by FR.

Some Klipsch show one thing on its DAR with your DMM, but in real life are something else. The K33 is one such animal.

Low efficiency/low ohm sets are the ones to watch; high efficiency ones--not so difficult on your amps. Guess which camp you're in.

Hi,
through my 50 watt tube amp, the Heresys sound better from the 4 ohm tap. More coherent less shouty. Your milage may vary.

Some amps (tube type?) don't double down like the supposedly 'ideal' SS.

Consider--that means they don't half UP either. For driver impedance curves that jump up and around, this can help with synergy.

The K33 for instance might go up to 32 ohms at higher FR. If a 100 w SS amp doubles down (200/4 ohm) then it halves up to 50/16 ohm, then 25/32. Stan man if your 50 wpc tube amp doesn't behave like this it might suit my new Khorns better eh?

(have I just talked myself into trying a tube amp? :dunno: )

Just learned this so details and implications can be explained better by others on this forum...did a list of my SS receivers and ranked them according to double-down 4ohm ability. For DQs that's cool but that ranking could be inverted for these new ones with the pentagonal footprint.

Hi,
my Heresys measure 7.8 ohms . I am currantly , liking them best in triode mode, through the 8 ohm tap. Through this configuration, I'm at least getting "listenable", unfitiguing sounds. The Solen recaps and a 1.5 ohm resister at the mid is a substantial upgrade, but....

The Heresy I's were rated 8 ohm, but their lowest impedance was 11 ohm at about 150Hz... technically they pretty much meet the spec for 16 ohm.
