klipsch kg 5.5 woofer question

hey guys, I just "stole" a set of these from craigslist last night. After listening today at louder levels, I can hear some kind of distortion or rattling sound in the two 10" woofers on one of the speakers. I looked closer at them and the surround has come unglued on half of the side of both woofers. Could this be causing the rattling? If so how and what should I used to reglue them? thanks in advance

I have a pair of KLF 30's that did the same thing. Those carbon graphite cones are slippery for the old glue! You can use siliconized acrylic latex caulk and thin it down with distilled water. I did not thin mine down and took my chances. So far so good. Try this first. Let them set up for a day or so. Play the KG's again and listen for the rattle. You may find that the driver board glue is also coming apart. I had to completly remove my driver board and re-glue the driver board to the speaker box. You can push/pull the the sides of the speaker box (usually in the middle -- if your looking at your speakers from the front to see if the sides move). Even a little movement will give you big rattles on certain frequencies........good luck!
 
thanks, I'll check on the driver boards. I know this is not the most ideal solution but could I use super glue to glue the cone back to the surround where it has come apart?
 
Superglue is too brittle after it dries.......white glue, silicone.......is the key. I suggest the silicone because of the carbon graphite cone and the butyl rubber surround material on your KG's. White glue works good on paper/foam cones.
 
So I've come to the conclusion that one of the woofers is blown or has a voice coil rub? I can hear some scraping when I push the cone in. I disconnected that woofer for now and just have one of the woofers working in one speaker. The other speakers woofers work just fine. Is this something that can be fixed or do I need a replacement woofer?
