Klipsch RF-82 - Thoughts/Opinions?

Does anyone have any experience with Klipsch RF-82s (series 1)?

They were mentioned in a possible trade, and I have no experience with the model, or klipsch in general.

I would want to use them in a stereo setup, not surround. I listen to a variety of music at low to moderate volumes. I tend to avoid music with really heavy bass like electronic, rap, metal, organ etc, so they don't need to "rock."

They are pretty sensitive (like all klipsch), what type of amp works best with them?

Does anyone have any words of praise or caution?

I may pick them up just to give klipsch a try, unless these are really far off of the typical klipsch sound.

I am a little turned off that all the reviews and comments I have been able to find are of people using these in surround systems running off of a single receiver. Their exeperience doesn't align with my uses, so I wonder who the manufacturer was designing for...

You will definitely be happy with them, these are some pretty hi-fi speakers. (thats why people use them in home theater)
If you were to use these with an old stereo receiver or a separate pre and amp, i can guarantee you will like it.

Yes, I have them the RF-82's and they are good for what you need them for, actually a better sounding speaker then the RF-83's. What works best on those is tubes as when I first used SS amps on them , the horn sounded very harsh. The horns are top's, of everything else, they can deliver the highs with detail, never heard before. The series both RF-82's and RF-83's have four speaker terminals on the back. Once the straps are removed you can seperate the horns and the 8in LF speakers ,and bi-amp using two amps and definitely use tubes on the HF horn, which is awsome.
They are also very efficient, running in around 98 percent, the horns take no load at all, when Bi-amped and could cause a problem with a tube amp, so I would recommend to just get two 8ohm 20watt resistors and hook them up to the speaker termnal of the amp, driving the horns.
The crossover inside the speaker has two sectons , the HF and LF, so that is no problem in Bi-amping the complete speaker.
I would recommend to put damping material , like 1in foam inside the speaker encloser for a better less boomy bass, but other wise a very good choice.
