Klipschorn 1960?

New to AK and looking to pick up some speakers. I would drive with Sansui 1000A or Fisher 500c, once I recap. I heard Klipschorn spreakers years ago and thought they sounded great. I have a friend that has a line on late 50's or early 60's vintage speakers. What are the risks of buying Klipschorns that are this old? My friend said the owner states that they work. What were the upgrades made over the years? What components and/or drivers might need to be replaced?

One thing for sure will be the crossover. It will need new caps. I would look up bob crites on the klipsch forum - he is the master and an incredibly nice guy. He'll set you straight.

I can only guess past this. Most likely, if everything is working, and it sounds okay, I would leave them alone.

I bought a 54 and a 56 Khorn last year. They were pretty much original 16ohm speakers. I haven't done anything at all to them, they sound incredible as they are. If the drivers work I would jump on them, they are the best money I've ever spent on Audio.

Thanks for the responses. Moinau, I checked out Greg's pages. He has some beautiful restorations/upgrades.

Well I went to check out the speakers and it turned out that they were not real Klipschorns but either homemade or a low quality kit. The drivers looked very generic (no names) and cheap. Not what I had my hopes up for. I will continue my search. :tears:

Sorry about that 98, but Klipschorns are worth the wait and the search if somebody really wants them.
