Knight tube receiver KN-350

Knight KN-350 AKA Pilot tube receiver--no sound

So, I just picked this up. It looks like it's in pretty decent shape. The case is a bit beat-up, one of the knob caps is missing, and it smells a bit musty, but otherwise it's fine. I can get very faint sound out of it with the volume cranked up all the way, but nothing else.

The tubes all light up just fine. It has a complement of 20! tubes.

4x EL84 (Raytheon) (test good)
1x 12AT7 (Telefunken) (SHORTED)--replaced
2x 12AU7 (Raytheon) (test good)
1x 6BE6 (Raytheon) (SHORTED)--temporarily substituted with 6CS6
2x 6BA6 (Raytheon) (test good)
3x 6AU6 (Raytheon) (test good)
2x 12AX7 (Tungsram from West Germany w/getter flash) (test good)
1x 12AX7 (Raytheon) (test good)
2x 7025 (unknown, stuck in tube shield) (test good)
1x 6AQ8 (Telefunken) (SHORTED)--temporarily substituted with 6BQ7
1x 6FG6 Magic Eye (appeared to work, did not test)

Still not getting any sound other than a very faint bit of it. Wiggled the hell out of all the switches. Haven't deoxited them yet. Obviously it could stand a recap, but I didn't see anything bulging or obviously bad, and nothing's heating up ridiculously.

Anyone know anything about this receiver? It's got pretty tiny output transformers, but a massive power transformer. Bottom panel claims 170W power consumption, and the guy who sold it to me said he thought it was from around 1962.

I love that peekaboo tube in the FM tuner module.

I don't know anything about this amp. Did you try a line input or just the tuners?

I tried running a CD player into the Aux input and got a very very faint bit of sound with the volume all the way up. Also, another question. When I got it there was a wire sticking out of the back that wasn't connected to anything. Should it just be attached to the ground terminal? Is that relevant?

Not sure. I'd be sure to have the volume down to what would be a normal volume position (like 9:00) when I experiment though.

No manual?
Did you do a google search on the unit?
The results may have a picture that helps.

I'm being careful with the volume so I don't toast my speakers. I Deoxited the switches and the volume control, but nothing changed. There's no manual. I googled the hell out of it but can't find anything at all. I can't find another one of these anywhere. One thing I noticed is that when I crank the volume and can hear the music faintly, it's pretty distorted.

Why not try touching that spade lug around with the unit on and volume low and see what happens?

I deoxited the controls and all the tube sockets, and wiggled all the tubes around a lot. Nothing. Is it possible that it's a dead capacitor? I assumed that the wire in back went to the ground, so I hooked it there.

I'd google search on the Pilot. You're likely to find out more information than from the Knight.
Are you experienced enough to use a multimeter to check your voltage rails in the power supply?

Well, the FM tuning section works perfectly. I ran the Tape Outs in the Knight to the Aux In in my Fisher 500C and it sounded great. So it has to be a problem in the Preamp/Amp section somewhere.
