Knob is loose

Hi guys one of the knobs in my Pioneer Ctf8080 deck is loose (it was like that when I bought it). It is the rec level knob, the input level is ok. I compared both and they look the same.. changing the knob will be the same result so the shaft could be the problem.. any ideas? Thanks!

Well, I would spread the shaft very very carefully with a small screw driver. BUT, one wrong move and it may snap off.

So, you could put a bit of aluminum foil over the shaft then press the knob on.

Take a small screwdriver and gently, GENTLY, GENTLY pry the slot open on the shaft.
DO NOT put too much pressure on the shaft while prying, as you could break off half of it.

Guys you're awesome. I tried to spread it open but I chickened out (wisely, knowing myself!). The foil thing might be what I'm looking for (I was wracking my brain thinking of some suitable"substance")

I use a pocket knife of about the right thickness and push the blade into the slot. It spreads the shaft and won't spread too far. Works like a charm.

If the knob is worn out. The tin foil trick is the charm there.

Maybe a thicker knife mm.. Yes. No it's not worn out as either knob works well in the input volume shaft.

What I look at on those is if one half is bent inward more than the other or is it even. As others have said it is easy to break them but probably less likely if it is uniform. In that case gentle persuasion is more likely to be successful.
