That's quite a piece of furniture! I like it.

AM, FM, and 3 shortwave bands on that radio - that's pretty awesome in and of itself.

Just a little marital/financial negotiation is all it would take. Hand her a credit card, and tell her to go get something nice for herself - whatever she wants. Then tell her you just need to go 'run an errand' with a wink.

She'll eventually forgive you.
 
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but these things are usually a bad joke in the radio collecting community. IIRC they were East German made with quite low power.
The klisch factor is off the scale but it's not a very good stereo, bar, or fireplace. I could see a lot better way to spend $500.
 
Yup...East German in the mid 1960s not 1950s. I have the receiver and extension speakers in my living room. Single ended EL84s...mine has RFTs and Tungsram tubes in it. I think it sounds OK. Pulls in a lot of FM stations.
 
I imagine that wood fireplace might burn nicely if you lit it up,
but it doesn't strike me as audio I want to own.
I have seen those for sale sometimes near the local military bases ...

Fun is all that counts. I have one that looks like it was much abused. $50 from a warehouse sale. No idea what works. Took a brief look at the speaker drivers. So far they look very interesting. It will be fun to see how much I can do with it. We shall see. Some of these oddball pieces sound charming.
 
Twelve or fifteen years ago, from time to time those Koronette systems(?) would be in a weekly auction I frequented. When I saw one, the first image in my mind was of someone being pissed while pouring a drink with a record playing inches from their arm as they sing along loudly and hand gesture recklessly.
