krell vs.....

To bad they are not in the US These were the 3 or 4 best sounding Krells

These make my MDA500's and KMA400 seem like toys.
I have used the FBP 600 and the Pass 600's did better wish they were mine

I find the older versions of some better than the newer ones.
If buying used look at the heat sinks if they are real blue they have been
driven hard in their live time. Maybe close to a factory visit
 
singapore huh..............i think your bank balance would go down just for ASKING how much to ship them here...................good advice indeed......a lot of the guys advertise the heat sink color to illustrate low useage........the thing ive been noticing with the pass stuff is the value seems to drop a tad faster than the krells.dont know why tho.............
 
Good for you Jim if you go for the Pass 600's. Both of those big boys the Krell
and Pass give off a lot of heat. Hope the room is big. Also for best performance
on these amps a dedicated 20 amp per unit. The Pass 600's run pure class A
up to 100-125 watts.:thmbsp:

thats the thing i really dont travel in those circles............of all the guys i know im the only one who really is interested in music and gear..........even the musicians i know couldn't care less about it unless it pertains directly to their on stage gear..............the audio crowd is a small one here.........the local krell guy is looking for someone on an upgrade path and i guess is worth waiting for a bit..if only to save taxes and shipping......

How about a pair of bridged Parasound Halo A21s? That will give you 750W/ch for about US$4K. You could even get one and see if it does the job, then add a 2nd one and bridge them if you still need more power.

Bryston also makes some large amps, and I would be inclined to look at those if I needed massive amounts of power. They're built like brick outhouses too.
 
Have you considered Classe (www.classeaudio.com)? I had good luck with their CA300 a few years ago (300wpc stereo). If you need more power, perhaps audition the Delta Series CA-M400 or Omega Series monoblocks. The Omega mono received rave reviews in the press. I've heard Classe paired with WP6, to terrific effect.

Another avenue to consider is that there is a world of budget-friendly used Mac out there, in both tube and SS.

Krell makes quality gear lots of people really like.

For all 'round sound, Mc is hard to beat, and if after extended listening in your setting, it holds its value so well that if you don't like it, you can flip it painlessly.

Well......this is essentially exactly what I've done (am doing) over the past month. But my total expenditure is less than the cost of the one Krell integrated.

Sort of the way I've gone with a pair of monobloc 150wpc tube amps.

Have you looked at the McIntosh MC602? http://www.mcintoshlabs.com/data/brochures/MC602br.pdf I toyed long and hard about it rather than the tube amps. Is a fully double-balanced amp and makes 600wpc. I owned its predecessor, the MC500, and thought it was a terrific amp. Power and slam galore without a bit of loss in the detail and nuance that makes an amp 'musical'. And that McIntosh look with those big, blue meters. Almost went for the MC602 just for the look. Highly recommended.
