KSS-240A pickup in an Onkyo DX-C120

Hi all,
I need to replace my pickup in the above CD player and I need to know if any kss-240A will fit? The Onkyo p/n is 24110011
The pickup has the numbers 31763 and 5K619 printed below the 240A.
Can I apply 3vdc to the unit to test the diode?
Is the Sony kss-240a a better unit than the cheap unbranded ones?

No. Do not apply anything to the LD. If you buy a new (or clone) laser, they have a shorting blob (of solder) that must be removed on installation.

The cheap unbranded units range from excellent to poor and even a 'Sony' branded one is more likely than not to be a clone.

What makes you think the original is faulty?
