Ktel

michaelhigh

mind's eye music
Is anyone having fun with these? I love the music of my 60's and 70's childhood, and these records are the perfect time capsule for my grade school years (64-70) and my high school ones (72-76). I've been getting them for 50c apiece! KTEL FOREVER!!!

K-Tel

Have quite a few myself. thrifts used to be full of them not as much now. I do give them a spin now and then. I will say I put a small collection of the K-tel collections together. was trying to get them all but I got derailed some where along the line and never got back on track. There is quite a large number of different K-tel records out there. :thmbsp:

I'm including all various artists. That encompasses quite a large body of work spanning various genres as well.

At first it didn't matter as I was picking up the many different various artists records also. I noticed just how many different K-tels were out there at the time I seemed to focus in on the K-tels. I think for awhile they just stopped showing up, that goes along with a bunch of other records that were easy to find at one time but not so much anymore. I still will pick up K-tels in VG or better condition. :D

I have about 100 K-Tel and Ronco "various artists" LPs. They are are a great source of long lost, hard-to-find gems and for the most part sound quite good, as I only buy excellent+ condition vinyl.

I ususally pick up the ones from the 70's as these have a wider variety of music from your cheesy AM ballards to the disco hits to the FM radio staples.

Having been introduced to music through am radio(70-74)I would enjoy listening to them but all I have come across have been beat to hell.

K-TEL originated from my home town so there are still lots of LP's banging around from yrs ago at all the thrifts but I don't have any as I put all of them on R 2 R many yrs ago when I could get them relatively cheap!

No record collection should be without at least one of these...;)

This was actually the very first record I ever bought. It was a garage sale across the street from where I grew up. It was .10 and I must've been about 8 or 9. I bought it because my uncle liked The Who and I Can See For Miles is on this one. The one from the garage sale is long gone. This one in the picture I found just recently at a thrift for a buck. Looks like it was hardly ever played.

I have I Believe in Music, Bright Side of Music and Today's Super Greats even though I have the entire Super Hits of the 70's on Rhino records.

Back in '69, one of my college buddies came back from break with one of those compilation records. I don't remember what label it was, but boy, was he pissed! All the songs were about 30 seconds long, then faded into psycho-rocko sound effects for a few seconds before the next song started. There must have been over 50 cuts on that album.

Does anybody remember these? I think it was a brand that got heavy advertising on TV and/or radio. But of course they never mentioned the "abbreviated" feature.

I never turn down a K-Tel disc at the thrifts. Like you guys, they are a slice of my personal history.

They were still touting music in Germany when I resided there in 1995.

This is the nicest K-Tel I've found not for the music but the presentation and the story behind the album. I guess K-Tel really got around this copy is from Finland.

Never bought one, but I still remember the commercials that were on late night.

Midnight Special comes to mind as one of the shows that had them featured.

There were some radio station records that did this, but the K-Tels and Roncos were original artists, licensed through the respective record companies and did a great job of promoting the artists and at the same time gave the teenager a rockin' good time! I recommend them highly for anyone who likes a good time with the cheapest way to get a wide variety, from bubblegum to classic rock. Even New Wave!
